RickyM vs Howard Shore - Evenstar (full 320kbps)

Ok so this sat on my PC for a month or two, until last night I decided to put some finishing touches, and fix some of the mixing due to the fact I got a set of Mackies.
It's 140bpm, and supposed to be uplifting

Here's the link.

Evenstar

Look forward to all your thoughts, and If anyone wants to play it out would be great

Thanks.

flat start i didn't like, get the bass right in there from the start imo, and i didnt really like the other point where it went flat :/

yeah its alright, pretty average, doesnt really float my boat

Posted by Ryarni on Aug-24-2006 21:18:

This is not average at all! Brilliant if you ask me. I have an older version of this you put up, sounds much more full now and the riff sounds better. I do agree about the flat sounding areas at around 3:26 for example, maybe try some kind of building bass, it just seems to go on a bit long and doesnt flow right, other than that I love it mate.

Your remix of Enya still is one of my actual all time fave trance tracks, and thats saying alot, and I love Enya anyway

8/10 - Change the flat arees maybe and it gets a 9

Thanks alot for the share

I like this one more than funky waves! The kicks are great! I love it!

Posted by Verdi on Aug-26-2006 07:17:

Have i heard this before Rickdogg? did you send it over msn one time!?

Anyways just had another listen (i think) Love it. Nice effects, nices pads, nice vox and a killer hook. Wicked stuff man.

Posted by The Drow on Aug-26-2006 16:18:

Nice bassline.
The start is too flat imo. maybe you should keep it that way for the first 8 bars but not longer.
The kick is really booming.
Nice riff.
Great pads.

OMG Break! *drools all over*
I really like this melody.
I did expect another melody below it after some time.

You should use filtering on the bass. Don't keep it flat.
I really think you need another melody going on around here.
In the may it be remix you had the vocals filling up the gap but here you need something else.
The snare roll has a bit too much flanger on it.

Well if you ignore the fact that I'm a over-critical & bitchy this is a great choonage after all

9/10,
Omer

p.s.
The may it be remix is so much better then this .

Hey mate,

Again a nice remix you got here. It is a lot more energetic and pacey than the may it be remix. The vocals are placed superbly in the mix so for that alone u get an A+.

However I am not really found of the thin lead accompanied by very thin pads. I would have choosen a bigger lead with those pads or bigger pads with that lead to get more mid freqs going. Also the kick is to ploppy for my taste. The high end in this kicks gives the track again more high end where it lacks a bit of mids and lows.

The arrangement, producing and mixdown in this track are wicked. You are one of those producers who let things seem very easy. I enjoyed the funkwaves and may it be remix more though than this.

One last thing that is off the hook in this track is the mastering, hmzzz did u get any help on that from someone by any chance?

Keep up the good work mate, looking forward to the successor of funkwaves and congrats on our succes with the R.N.M - Stargliding track

Cheers,

Your dutch partner in crime!

[2.30] amazing 8)

[3.54] full kick in. nice melody, nice and soft. and pad.
[5.15] nice bassline rise with that soundtrack. nice fx.
[6.10] back to kick and nice melody again.
[7.05] nice kick rise.
[7.34] back to full kick clap and melody.
[8.00] just percussion and bassline
[8.55] nice end with long fx.

listening (on crapy speakers)

like the intro with the bassline and pads/fxs...you can never go wrong with dark stuff

like the clap but a bit too loud

like the melody, i would lower the LPF or lose the resonance, hurts my ears a bit

break comes in preaty early...atmospheric section here like it a lot, good main section

ok...really good production, but i don't see the point in having two breaks and two main sections that sounds preaty much the same....i would've done just one.

thanks for sharing

I think it's just the speakers... The melody sounds good here.

Thanks for the feedback...I did the 'flat' parts when I made the song a few months ago, I suppose it's just to give a bit of variation in it.

Posted by DJ Patski on Aug-28-2006 10:53:

Yay the full version.

I'm not too good at picking out all the pro's and con's in a song but I loved the previous release and this one is nothing short of amazing.

Great work as always Ricky!

Intro is a bit standard sounding.

I like the glittery synth at 1:04.

This track shimmers. I like the atmosphere.

Ultimately, though, it was uninspiring to me. It may just not be my style, though.

Posted by Aesthetic on Aug-30-2006 08:31:

Man, I really have no issues with this track.. how stuff like this can't be signed and other stuff can is pretty criminal if you ask me.. those sine waves that come in are pretty blissful.

Posted by PDM on Aug-31-2006 05:22:

Very nice production. Enjoyed it fully.

Posted by Electrophile on Aug-31-2006 06:33:

Excellent production. Doesn't exactly fit in my case but I wanted to let you know that this is damn good work.

Posted by Electrophile on Aug-31-2006 06:35:

Would you mind if I passed this on to a DJ that will definitely play it out?

Posted by Nell on Aug-31-2006 09:15:

Posted by Cloud on Sep-01-2006 15:39:

Very nice track you;ve got here Ricky. I think you could have one breakdown and not 2 tho. Except for that i don't have any other complain.
