phone help : Samsung D807 OR Sony Ericsson W810i

so i'm fed up with Telus and I placed an order for the Samsung D807 from Rogers this morning, everything looked fine till I started reading reviews and checked out some stores...everyone seems to be telling me to get the Sony W810i for that price because its a much better phone...

anyway, Rogers said I have the options of switching the models so I need opinions.Their both great phones and both have pros and cons...but some advice from anyone who has one of these phones would be awesome.

I know 2 people with that Sony. Both are very satisfied. It's a good phone.

Check out this bad-boy, Sony K800I

I WANT!

I have the W600i, and its very good. No complaints (except for the non expandable memory). ESP since I got an avi to 3gp converter Ive been watching movies on the subway, at work...lol.

The only thing I hate is SonyEricsson's universal idiot jack... Can't do two 'jack-operated' actions at the same time.

is the D900 even out in Canada yet? I don't see either phone listed for sale on Rogers or Bell.

And you never will. Find them for sale on the internet. There's a few hardcore cellphone retailers in Toronto that carry stuff you can't get from Rogers or Bell.

You aren't limited to buying the piece of shit phones that they have, and they are all pieces of shit compared to the stuff you can purchase.

www.easycell.ca is my favourite for service and such.

D900, $520: http://www.easycell.ca/ProductInfo....oductid=SAMS025

X820, $400 (and 6.9mm thin holy fuck!): http://www.easycell.ca/ProductInfo....oductid=SAMS001

hmm, thanks.I might have to look into the D900 - looks awesome.
the major problem I have with the D807 (not sure if it's designed like the D900) the slide is only supported by a metal gear...oppose to a track slide.

Posted by VERTiG0 on Aug-25-2006 02:57:

You may want to look into the D820 then. I have one, and the slide mechanism is a magnet. It works fucking incredibly well, and all sliders should be this way. You can pick one up from Easycell for $420 now.

I dunno which model, but my bro just showed me today the new phoen he got thru a work plan (save huge $$$, incredible), and it was a Sony Ericsson. Very very small, but pretty cool looking. the camera on it was sick!!!!!!!!!! simply inredible for a cell phone cam.

i beleive it had 1 gig of mem for mp3s.

Posted by VERTiG0 on Aug-25-2006 03:17:

Those Sony phones may be nice, but they're no X820.

Bulky phones piss me off.

That could be the one. It has a 2 megapixel camera, plus expandable memory for the MP3 player.

Drew, can send me that converter program please?

Re: the w600i... I realized I took lousy night pictures, because I just found out it has a 'night mode' and now I get much better pix than before. I should have RTFM!

get the W810i from rogers for 2 bills then debrand it and get rid of all the rogers garbage thats on it. then it becomes one of the best phones out there for a decent price.
the k800 is awesome but is wayyy to expensive. if you're really interested in it, you can get it for about $550 at pac mall.
anyway, hope it helped!

speaking of 'debranding' one of the things I hate the most is fucking ads on the mainscreen (wallpaper) is there a universal program for Sony or Samsung phones that can remove the stupid logos and stuff?

Posted by Cosmic Fur on Aug-25-2006 05:30:

You should be able to change the wallpaper using phone options.

Oh, and w810. Very solid phone.

in order to get rid of all that shit you have to flash your phone with the latest firmware. you can't use the SEUS (sony ericsson update service) updates cause they don't unlock the rogers settings.

you have to purchase a log account through davinici servers or wotanservers and debrand it that way. once you do you get rid of the "mall" thing in the main menu and all the rogers startup screen shit. as well as unlocking the true theme's of the phone, which are ALOT more eye catching.

mind you, by debranding and flashing your phone, you void the rogers warrenty. but it's worth it.

if you have any other questions i'd be happy to help out!

im getting the w810 next month... i've had my phone for way too long now
3+years

i've realized after NOT buying a $400 cell phone, it was a good choice. All I do is just talk on it now and then, and other than text messaging, really dont use the other shit lol. Maybe I would for like 2 weeks, then thats it haha. Pretty thin phone, doesn't cost that much, i'm good lol

Like what if you lose your phone, or something happens that wrecks it? At least I can replace mine for $165 lol. Who really buys a cell because it can take pics, and expects to take actual good pics with it? no one, they just buy a digital camera. I can see you want it to take pics, because maybe theres some huge crash you can get a picture of, or drunken pictures, but still, its not worth the money.

I know I know, the cell phone is a toy, and its cool as shit some of the stuff it can do, and yeah yeah, if I was rich I would still buy the most expensive cell I could find, but knowing me, wreck it somehow lol.

I have the w800 and I have no complaints, except that it is triband.
Other then that no complaints.

I have the W810i, it's a great phone. However, if you plan on using it listen to MP3's, there is audible hiss and static noise, especially at lower volumes and break downs of tracks. Other Sony Ericsson Walkman phones do suffer from this same problem... there are third party fixes available, but not yet for the W810i. Hopefully soon!

Check out the Motorola A1200. It looks like an amazing phone. But it will cost you $600-700.

Don't get a boring ol' phone that anybody here can go and buy at any Rogers store.

$600-700 now that much I'd never pay for a phone
how's the customization on the W810i? in restrictions as to what you can do with the pics/vid/mp3s you upload? (like set pics for photo call id, set full mp3 for ringtones, etc...)

customization is key in any phone for me personally

I'm going to check some places around Toronto today and see if there are any retail stores I can consider.
