agreed that guv should be on the list. But toronto's scene is so fractured that we dont usually register on the world stage.

Could not disagree more.. after having the pleasure of attending events held at 8/18 mentioned on the list I would not put Guvernment on the list.

While I appreciate what the Guv does for the local scene, it does not hold a candle to those mentioned.

why not?

When they rate the clubs they probably review the them as a whole as far as lighting, sound, atmosphere, decorations, interaction etc. Apart from that they probably review Guv being the main room only and NOT the entire super club that it is with Koolhaus, Orange Room, Skybar, Drink etc. SO if I were to review the Guv main room only it definately wouldn't make my list but Guv as a whole with ALL the rooms inside it would definately be on the top of my list.

Lol, What's up with that Berlin club being there? From the picture, it looks like shit.

or maybe we think we're bigger than we actually are ?

or perhaps due to our stagnant scene, the rest of North America has caught up, or even dare i say, surpassed us

isn't that the one where no cameras are allowed inside? i think it might be. i would totally go, i think it looks cool.

i think it's funny that turnmills is on there. i'm not gonna lie, i had some serious certified good times there in 2000/01 but i don't really think it should be on the list.

Anyone been to any of those place? Comments?

p.s. Stereo does'nt count! lol

thats part of my point. Also local club politics here fracture the scene and make it difficult for anyone to have the strength to break out globally. How can you when you have to worry about backstabbers at home all the time?

Not to mention the torontocentric attitude that most people here have. A lot of people in the business dont care to, or dont know how to promote themselves globally.

Canadians are not very good self promoters by nature.

well Canada.. or more specifically Toronto doesn't seem to really have much of an export culture at all?

i love cielo. i don't love that there is nowhere to sit, but the club looks and sounds AMAZING.

oh, i liked the dirtyness of it. i liked the lasers. i liked the artwork. but then i also liked trance back then, so.... looking back, it was a bit ghetto and packed and everyone was always completely off their tits. not worthy of best nightclub status. but oh, i have some good memories.

amnesia and space for the fucking win!

pacha ibiza gets a meh but i think it should be kept on there for it's prestige in the clubbing culture.

we have a lot to offer initially. But we never capitalize on it. Either that or someone tries to take it away from us whether it be competition or government.

At the risk of sounding cheesy it truely is a lack of unity, respect and loyalty that are our biggest problems when it comes to not just the local scene, but also the world stage.

Posted by malek on Aug-26-2006 19:00:

ugh, after looking at those pics i don't know how Stereo fits in there.

Stereo looks like a spot where you could be stabbed by a hobo

Maybe Opera will make the list in a year or two www.clubopera.ca

As a whole the Guv complex should be there, but not a single room demarks itself.

that's a good point which i never actually considered. taking the entire complex into context probably doesn't meet their criteria. and the Guv mainroom alone or any of those rooms alone probably doesn't cut it in terms of making that list.
