-- Orbital - Why the Break-UP?

Talking Orbital - Why the Break-UP?

I am listening to the orbital set in 2001 at Dance Valley. Where there any at that event? They had these awesome rotating radar looking speakers, that would wash the sound over the crowd.

I just was wondering if anyone had any dirt on why Paul and Phil stopped in 2004.

I just really wish I could see them perform live!

PS if you don't know who they are, it is a definate that you check them out, because they are GREAT!

They didn't make a full stop at producing but just quit as a duo, as Orbital. After 15 years of actively producing and remixing together they just wanted to have more time with their families, to spend more time with the children as apparently Orbital has took alot of time in their lives .. so they decided to let Orbital rest in peace.

Yet they continue at producing occasionally but with other people in other projects, for example Phil is nowadays working with a guy named Nick Smith in a project named Long Range which is more of a chillout and breaks style for home listenin kind of project compared to Orbital's trippy allaround techno and such.

Impact (The Earth Is Burning), Chime, Monday, Walk Now, The Girl With The Sun In Her Head, Out There Somewhere (Part 2), Pants, You Lot.

Do these lads know no bounds when it comes diversity and talent?

I wish I could have been to one of their parties off of M25 in london! Hah! Perhaps someday they will have another tour together, and stop by California in the US. It would be such an awesome experience.

Now, was the remix of Stoneface & Terminal - Merkur, actually done by orbital? Because I looked all over discogs, but couldn't find if it was them... Have they done anything more recent than that?

Thanks for the info Grim!

I can assure you they would never associate with Stoneface & fucking Terminal.

Yeah, when I was reading the discog on the release, I was a bit baffled myself. (have never heard the remix). But orbital, sometimes with their remixes, they hardly resemble the original so....

Posted by GrimReaper on Aug-26-2006 22:50:

No, as i said in a thread HERE, the Merkur mix has nothing to with Orbital but it's just a mix title Stoneface and Terminal gave for an alternate version they did. Orbital hasn't done anything as Orbital since they quit in '04. D'oh!

*EDIT* ahh you guys were faster there.

But one of the latest somewhat Orbital related tunes i have, is Aquasky & Long Range - Crosswire which is from earlier this year.

Have you heard Longe Range track, "which way now?" I just listened to it on his myspace.

Thanks so much for the info.

Yeah i have heard the tracks on their myspace, lovely stuff, i like especially the vocal track Madness And Me. I hope the tracks come out soon, unless they have and i have missed them.

Maybe...after...

KRAFTWERK (first proper EDM group?)

NEU!(i consider them as EDM.Maybe the inventors.)

FRONT-242(well, they are EBM .EBM is EDM eight?Or vice versa lol?)

CABARET VOLTAIRE (EBM)

SPOOKY
(Charlie May+Duncan Forbes=greatest 90s progressive EDM EVER IMO)

SALT TANK(as a journalist stated once, they sound like a cross-over between orbital and this mortal coil.It is true, making them even better then orbital IMO.)

UNDERWORLD

GLOBAL COMMUNICATIONS

AUTECHRE

LEFTFIELD

BOLA

ORBITAL...and especially the "In Sides" album which i consider it to be orbital's masterpiece.Symphonic layered electronica and beautifull ambient soundscapes.Nothing really matches this IMO.

I think there was a VHS (remember them?lol) called "Live Experience", i saw it once in a record store (probably it was 1999 or something)but unfortunately other then that i'm not aware of any other live performances.I have three amazing albums though, "Laguna Calorado", "Science and Nature" and "Wavebreaks" and if you don't allready have them i suggest you to immediately buy them or download them or something lol cause they are all really excellent!I think that"Laguna Calorado"(ST4) is really hard to find though...and i'm still searching for "ST3" up to this day...
