Bye Bye Cherry Beach

Apprently Promise was just shut down by some asshole cops. Reports are saying that they were rude to Dave and Irene and that they have been ticketed.

wtf

I guess we'll find out sooner or later what really happened.

i think it might be temporary for today. not sure of all the details, but thought I should post it up incase anyone was going there right now.

Posted by Truepioneer on Aug-28-2006 01:18:

They shut down a party there, I was at, last year too.

So it might not be the end of Cherry Beach parties.

Posted by HypnotEyez on Aug-28-2006 03:53:

they shot down a few parties every summer..but they havn't gone steady...yet =/

Oh if only the Star wouldn't of printed that stupid article about the Cherry Beach Parties, then maybe the party would of gone smoothly. From now on...watch your backs when we go to Cherry

Which stupid article? The one where they had nothing but supportive things to say about Cherry Beach?

or just stay sober and there'll be nothing to watch your backs for

The cops have known about Cherry Beach for ages
Cops often show up at many CB parties and let them run
The cops also shut down the odd CB party here and there.

Hell, there have been times where there has been more than 1 party going on, and they shut down one party but not the other.

To think that the cops are oblivious to CB and that the Star article was the one that clued them in is simply stupid.

CB hasnt been "underground" for a LONG time. I've had enough "1st time ravers" introduce themselfs to me and wish me a "happy fun rave party" because they heard about it off of Purerave.com to verify that fact.

The parties are listed on here, tribe, om, purerave and even the hullaboard - none of which are exactly "exlusive underground communities".

LOL..let's just clear this one up for you, shall we. Since you obvioiusly missed the TOTA etiquette 101 class which says don't assume and call others "stupid."
No one thinks that the cops are oblivious. In fact us regulars know that CB has been busted up a few times in the past.
That is your misinterpretation of what was said.
Now what most of us do think is that the Star article (that appear to be supportive) only draw attention to our happiness...and upsets some of the bureaucrats or power heads of the CB area. These unhappy ppl fixate on us with their jaded view of life and take great pleasure in quashing our fun times. That is it. Got it now? Good!

Ghost Smilie

Mrs. McSheinbein and I went, but it was a no go. . . . oh well!

cherrybeach bummer

HEY MS....we totally missed your party and heard the bad news on how it got busted prior to our 8pm leave-time on Sat. night. We managed to call a bunch of people before they left their homes but everyone was bummed.

However, last year's Shift party was also visited by two sets of cops on two different occasions during the party. We were lucky - they left (one by horseback), the other two with sirens and horns blaring while the big crowd waved them away! This year's had no cop presence (well, that had more to do with the crapass weather i'm sure) but nevertheless, don't lose hope people! There prolly has to be some "tuff love" to please the public but hopefully, things will resume back to normal. AS always, it may be a few bad eggs that have destroyed the relatively good name of CherryBeach parties. We've been to a couple that were set up on the beach, speakers facing the water which left no doubt that the islanders got an earful all night long. On the flipside, I have no doubt that Promise has always kept things respectful all summer long!

Therefore, never fear! Let this stuff fade from memory and we'll start fresh again next year!

Confused

Can someone confirm if Cherry Beach is happening this weekend.

Posted by dallastar on Sep-02-2006 00:12:

just received this
quote:
It is happening, we're working on things for Cherry Beach this monday of the
long weekend and will send out a detailed email about it tomrrow or saturday
night. Thanks for the patience.

Also, we're looking for volunteers to go up to the Harvest festival farm this
coming wednesday and thursday. Email us about that if you're interested. This
week up at the site was gorgeous - the volunteers and us are all proudly
sporting farmer tans and some new muscles!

cheers,
David and Irving

I'm sure the aticle had nothing to do with it.

the police do it once in a while just to remind everyone that they're calling the shots.

Duh..of course the article had nothing specifically to do with this bustup, but....Did ya miss the post where I said articles draw attention and bureaucrats react. It's like a mission to some ppl. They are off to save the world from evil young ppl. Young people spreading luv..having fun...ohhhhh that's horrible

Posted by dance2dabeat on Sep-02-2006 22:47:

went to cherry beach for about 10 minutes sunday morning before it started to rain

Posted by Misanthrope on Sep-04-2006 21:37:

if anyone is heading down there tonight...

A message from Dave & Irving of Promise about today's Cherry Beach
So the good lads were met by some boys in blue when they arrived today to set up this free party for us all.

The police informed Promise that they would not be allowed to set up their soundsystem.

Dave and Irving are down at the beach still and there are lots of people hanging out. A band has gone home to get their instruments and they think Yoshie and Chi will be doing an acostic set up some point. . .

No DJs or dancing today though. Methinks the police should have found something better to do. . . surely someone is committing a crime somewhere in the city today, ya' think?

I can't post in rollcalls as I'm a promoter. . . if someone could copy this into the roll call thread it would be nice.

Posted by Misanthrope on Sep-05-2006 19:36:

so riot police was sent down to cherry beach?
bahahaha

Posted by dallastar on Sep-05-2006 22:01:

So a couple friends and I went to Cherry beach at 3:30 p.m. and David and Irving were there to great people (to say the least) to let them know the cops were there waiting for them when they arrived to give them a fine for a no-permit party. So people startign going to the actual beach no music though, but we sat there listening to the tranquil lapping of the water coming up on the shore.

To bad they ended. . . . no cheery beach next year it looks like but we will all have to wait and see!

Farewell cherry beach it was fun while it lasted

FYI This was part of the latest newsletter from my sailing club

The Toronto Waterfront Revitalization Corporation (TWRC) is working in

partnership with the City of Toronto and TEDCO on plans to develop

transitional sports fields on a site located between Cherry Street and

Regatta Road south of Unwin Avenue in the Port Lands (i.e. in the area

normally used for the Sunday Raves) This project is planned to include two

regulation-sized sports fields on City parkland. They will be adjacent to a

proposed initiative including basketball and other sports facilities on

Toronto Economic Development Corporation (TEDCO) lands. ENVIsion and the

Hough Group and Earthtech Canada have been retained to provide environmental

and design services for this project.

Please come to a public forum:

Wednesday, September 13, 2006 7.00 7.30 p.m.

Open house 7.30 9.00 p.m.

Presentation and discussion Toronto Hydro - Cafeteria, 2nd Floor 500

Commissioners Street (Corner of Commissioners and Carlaw)

As this affects our area and club, it would be good to get as many people out

to voice our concerns. Ed note: It is quite ironic that the city has

this green policy, yet will be cutting down lots of trees for what is

planned as a temporary field.

i never even went there. what a shame.
