Global Excursion - The MP3 Mix

Ok, this will take some doing...

Basically, what I want to be able to do, is create an MP3 Mix, using 30 DJ's.

Each DJ will submit a 5 track demo-type mix. ANY format used but sent in 160kbps MP3 format.

I will then put all the 30 mixes into a single file, mixing where possible to create a massive mega mix.

The more interest the moe DJ's.

Who's up for it, and will it work?

30 x 5 x 5mins = 12.5hrs

Leaving a lot of work on flow and harmonic matters, I'd be good luck to make the puzzle fit without any left parts. Better would be to have every dj work starting from the previous piece; of course it would require more time and would end us up with huge filesizes.
Trouble with tracks chosen twice as well.

It's a bit largescale, why not keep at it until cd10 something, when we'll be really well adjusted to playing with eachother, maybe then we could go for something a bit more ambitious, like a cd quality mix which is supposed to sound really professional in terms of track selection and mixing and sound quality (this includes someone mastering the mix). Just my idea, but if people want to go ahead with this 12.5hr mix, sure, I'll be in.

I like the idea, but more as a showcase of say 20 DJ's doing 4 tracks each. Flow doesnt matter if its a showcase, or 'fave tracks' mix.

20 X 4 sounds good to me.

Quality won't be an issue, doing it like current format will give MASSIVE files.

Whatever it's gonna be......count me in!

Hell, you know i'm down for it.

i'd make it a point that DJs should keep near enough in the same style throughout their 4 tracks, with no big bpm curves.. this would make it alot easier when it comes to merging them all together smoothly.. you wouldn't go from prog to trance then back to prog & on to techno etc, would be a bit all over the place

also waiting for 20-30 signups might take time.. once it's official & announced i'd just get people to submit mixes as & when they like.

Agree'd - trick to this will be DJ does 4 or 5 = Prob 5 to show off there skills, and write's down if poss the starting BPM and END BPM.

That - if kept close will help, and the mix will have to start off beaty and end beaty, to keep a good flow.

An EPIC on the cards me thinks.

OR

Each DJ can have a 20 min slot to fill. As many tracks as they want.

20 mins show off sounds nice!

the idea is very intresting, but a 12,5 hour long mix would be a bit tooo long dont you think? what i think would be lots of fun is if you stole the concept of the hardstyle event of x-qlusive - holland vs. italy.

why dont each contestant (dunno where you should set the max number of allowed participants) make a 5 track mix and and then be up against another participant. people will download the mixes and vote for who they think made the best mix.

consider it like a knock-out tournament. quarters, semis and finals. could be intresting if there where one leg with trance, one with house and so on.

of course, this competition could be a long ass one, but at least it would be quite fun and intresting... dont you think? :)

Posted by MoN-SooN on Aug-31-2006 13:13:

sure why not... competition always gives you extra boost...

i say aim for 9

although your idea is pretty cool, too

Posted by mr2gti on Aug-31-2006 21:37:

OK, so you guys prefer a comp then...

a 20 minute mix-off...

32 DJ's.

Problem is, this has been done before, and it's getting the voting done which is a real pain.
I'll work out a different - possible way though.

Posted by isoterra on Aug-31-2006 21:40:

actually i prefer the long mix i still think that needs to be done

just saying the comp would a cool idea as well, although 32 DJs would be a mission to get on board.. 16 would be a more realistic target

Posted by mr2gti on Sep-01-2006 17:49:

Yeah, wanna do the HUGE mix.

Would be a first i guess!

How about a comp where 16 DJ's do a mix, with a preset tracklist!

16 Tracks, one from each DJ - in a folder for all to use and mix in the best way possible?

Not seen that done before.

I'm up for this, let me know.

Should be fun

Either mate, what format you using for it, decks and cd's or ableton etc?

Posted by Ryarni on Sep-01-2006 19:56:

I like the huge mix idea best, its only a one off download then for anyone wanting to hear the final project.

And Im in for this

Posted by mr2gti on Sep-01-2006 19:57:

The huge mix will be ALL Formats.

The head to heads will be ALL formats IF you have the tracks, otherwise mp3 based

Oh ok so the tracks would be pre selected then people would make their sets from that list?

Good idea

Like I said I'll do any, so whatever you decide on doing put me down for it.

Cheers

Posted by mr2gti on Sep-01-2006 21:07:

Yeah, i'm thinking 16 DJ's, each pick a track, submit it.

ALL 16 DJ's use the 16 Tracks, and mix, to there best abilities, in any way they want.

Then all completed mixes are uploaded for the world to vote on. Or some judges lol.

Posted by Ryarni on Sep-01-2006 21:29:

How many people will want to download 16 full length mixes of the same songs in a different order though? I doubt anyone will.. hmmm

Dunno about the competition though, I like to regard the people I'm cooperating with as colleagues rather than competition. Feel free to organise a dj contest though, I just don't see how it relates to GX.
my 2 cents.
