nice.

good work on this dude. i like the way it builds up - i remember this one from the PSX with teh lightgun pointing at the tv styleee!

the pad/string work on this is good (atmosphere wise) and that bleepy intro thing is great too, sounds just like from the game

though the breaks could be a bit more meaty, like a giz/hiphop drummer sample in there or something every now and then just to give it some variation

oh and maybe get like a hybrid/BT influence in there with some acidey type sounds and an extra gated layer or something, just to spice it up a bit like

mix/EQ wise is fine in my ears, i dont see how ppl can detect such minor occurances in frequencys and shit round here (must have really decent monitors/equipment)

but yeah good work on that!

Yeah, I think I'll beef up those percs and add some details here and there, I only spent a couple of hours on this so far. Maybe on the weekend when I have more time...

hey mystery.

im a fan of the track from the airport level. its great!

listening...

great atmosphere. piano is good and i love the gritty blippy sounds. 'sampler style synth strings' are good. i like the non quantised sound to it. gives a more human sound.

no complaints here. id quite like a half and half mix of 4:4 beats and breakbeats. and maybe a more dubby sound during main bits. so its more dancefloor friendly. using that dark atmosphere/melody during the breaks etc, but it would prob turn quite generic.. then again some huge interesting percs would spice things up..

this will be a good intro track to the vgm mix...

Thanks for the feedback.

I've updated the track slightly. Nothing major - extended the middle break, added some new percs & tidbits and made the ending slightly more "out there"

Same link.

Overall, this is a very original piece. I like how you took your time with the intro (is that a radio static effect panned to the left?). Also, good work on the stereo field. About halfway through, I'd love a 4/4 house beat to come in, though it would work better if in the 1st half the beat wasn't so hard. But it's your tune, and you did a good job on it. You did this in a couple of hours?

Posted by Mr.Mystery on Aug-30-2006 09:30:

Pretty much, yeah. I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted to do and once I found the midi it almost happened by itself.

I was bored so I slapped some vocals from the movie on top of the track. See first post for a link

I couldn't find a clean sample of it quickly enough. The vocal mix isn't anything serious anyway.

your stuff always really impresses me

I'm glad to hear that, thank you.

Hey this is really cool.
Wasn't sure i'd like it at first during the intro, but at around 4 minutes while just listening in the back ground i found myself dancin around to it a bit lol.
Not really the kinda music i listen to or produce so can't offer anny productive criticisms, but good work man.

Cheers,
Alex

So nice to get direct links instead of that YSI nonsense...

I think the ambience you've put together in the intro and the rest of the track is great, and the break[beat]'s got a nice groove. IMO you could have gotten away with calling it breaks instead of VGM. The very end (last 20 seconds) is kind of weird though, it sort of sounds like you left some random bits in there and forgot to take them out. I know, airport sounds right?

I don't really have any other specific comments, it's well-mixed and well-arranged like most of your work. Nice job!

Yes I know, hehe
I did that on purpose, I like to do that kind of little gimmicks on my tracks. I'm a bit surprised you're the only one who's commented on it actually

And the reason I called it VGM is that it's for the VGM project... otherwise I might not have

Posted by Philby on Sep-30-2006 11:07:

i like it
i think just listening on pc speakers though maybe the kick could be a bit...beefier? i dunno, i like the beats in "al azar - at the edge of tomorrow", these ones seem a little..bland..not sure how to describe it really
anys nice

also +1 on the yippee kiyay

Posted by Mr.Mystery on Sep-30-2006 13:47:

I think this is the same beat as on Edge of Tomorrow, actually... I just compressed it differently.

Posted by Salegon on Sep-30-2006 15:40:

I like the beginning of your track which is creating a tensed atmosphere.

1.46 : mmm, I would appreaciate a deeper more serious sound but it is ok.

Better than most of the stuff that is produced nowadays but not really special.
It would go nice with a thriller or action movie taking place at the airport.

7/10

Well yeah... it did

Cool, I loved these films and the game

Nice intro with that twinkly piano (vocal version I've decided to listen to).
I like it when the breakbeat comes in, nice crisp kick, perhaps the bassline could be a bit louder, I find it always works well louder in tracks like this.
Great orchestral sounding strings.
I'd say you captured the mood of the game very well, well from what I remember of it anyway

really nice pad work...
not crazy about the melody that comes in 1/3 through (not sure the time its streaming)
production its pretty good, gets a little repatitious imo. i think the intro is its hightlight
good job
