So your looking at a DJM800??

Have you considered a Nuo5? its got effects, high end EQ (on par with A&H or Pio 800).. 4 channel..etc

Posted by miamitranceman on Aug-30-2006 03:18:

If I could afford it, I'd go with the 800. You're gonna get a lot of responses suggesting the Xone 92 and the Nuo 4 as well. All great mixers but with different pluses and minuses.

I'm actually curious about anyone who owns the 800. How do you guys like it so far?

Apart from 2 extra channels, does the DJM 800 have any features the 400 doesn't? I'm a bedroom DJ and use only two CDJs.

you're nuts!! DJM800 for bedroom djing... buy Nuo3 and be happy

Posted by Trance Android on Aug-30-2006 09:55:

You want new or used? Thought about a used DJM600? You should be OK with used if you're sensible & buy one boxed & with light bedroom useage... My DJM909 was bought used & is rock solid. If 2 channels is enough & you want whistles & bells, the 909 has more than ebough of them

If money is no option get the 800 Here's a couple of vids of it in action so you can see if it's what you're after

Part 1

Part 2

Soz, can't get it to embed the movies for some reason

I've got the 400 with my two 800 mk2s. Some of the bigger features the djm800 has over the 400 are midi controls (to directly control ableton through the mixer, for example), and this light indicator which, correct me if I'm wrong fellas, approximates the key of each track so you match keys by color. Other than that, besides the two extra channels, 3 or 4 more built in effects, and firmer channel faders, the rest is very similar in terms of feel and layout.

Edit: One other thing I forgot is the djm800 is entirely digital out so you can get the purest digital signal from your cdjs using the appropriate plug. The 400 is processed digitally but is not true digital out.
If you have the money, it's an investment for the future for sure. If you don't need the channels, the 400 is the closest to the 800 out there right now.

Get a xone if you don't want that many bells and whistles youll get great sound quality and a rock solid mixer. You could also get an Ecler Nou series mixer as well they have some more effects but are very rock solid as well. Ultimately its your choice but I'm just not a pioneer fan at all.

Posted by Allied Nations on Aug-30-2006 16:54:

I'd skip the Nuo4/5. Great mixers, but you get the best of both worlds on the Pio. Midi and Effects, also a layout which everyone is fairly used to.

Posted by DjWoody on Aug-30-2006 17:41:

Quite honestly.... I would get a Pioneer or a Xone over the Ecler. Why? Because those two are pretty much industry standard. If you ever decide to become a club DJ, you will see those a lot and you would already know them pretty good. On the other hand, I've been DJing since the early 90's and I'm still yet to see an Ecler mixer at a club or party.

It's a hellavua of a mixer...but fuck that price is high as shit..Pionner still wants a shit ton for the 5 and 6 hundreds.

i cant wait for my fucking 400 to arrive.

counting the days,

Posted by Boomer187 on Aug-30-2006 20:42:

the 800 is sweet. i played on it at a TA party in LA and it was a solid mixer. I didnt use the effects or the key display, but for just mixing, it is very nice.

A lot of clubs have Eclers installed especially the larger format mixers SCLAT, etc... I think Ecler is on a level with Rane which is to say much better than Pioneer. I don't buy the sell that you have to use a mixer you don't prefer at home just because they will be in clubs or at parties. A good DJ can mix on anything, so for personal use people should get what they like best.

Really? Before I got a Xone:92, I bought a 600 for $689, brand new. That was two years ago. I've seen 500s go for $350 (not a fan, but that's a good deal).

Anyway, if you're gonna spend that much on a mixer, you might as well get a Xone:92 or Vestax PMC-CX, rather than the DJM-800.

Posted by Abhay on Sep-01-2006 02:30:

never had the chance to use em. But Having read the manuals for both mixers...

Xone 92>DJM800

the only real upperhand for the 800 is the FX

I don't think i'll ever get the chance to use a Xone in Australia. There's only one retailer for that, and not a single club i've been to has a Xone.

Posted by Abhay on Sep-01-2006 02:44:

Just out of curiousity is the Nuo headphone out Pre EQ, or Post EQ?

Posted by BTG on Sep-02-2006 01:54:

i dont have any outboard gear, so i think the 800 would be better for me

I agree he should buy whatever he feels comfortable with. But I still yet to see an Ecler mixer in a club. At Spundae we use either Xone's or DJM800. At the spanish rock clubs I play at we usually have Pioneers. At most one night events I have played at are either Rane, A&H or Pioneer. Sometimes even Vestax.

Pioneer overcharges for their mixers IMO

Pioneer is the Nike of the DJ equipment market.

Posted by nrjizer on Sep-02-2006 06:37:

Eh, I thought it was overrated at first. But I just watched the demo video on decks.co.uk, and I gotta say you can do some incredible things with that mixer. I am seriously considering one now.
