is it really worth getting an masters deg.?
i am debating whether or not to go for my masters degree later on in life. i heard you can make more money if you have a masters degree, but i don't know if it depends on what your field is?
Well, it sure won't hurt you as far as marketing yourself.
Some masters degrees you will study just for the sack of studying with it potentially never being of any real value later on in life.
What are you studying right now?
hmmm...
i am studing communications, psychology and japanese and i am going to go into marketing/advertising and POSSIBLY pr (public relations).
the only masters i would do would be either an mba or my m.eng
good luck finding a good job in marketing, everybody including their grandma is going into marketing these days.
Just like da other person said an Mba is a good add-on masters that's pretty versatile in advancing you in any type of field really.

hmm... i'll have to consider. i could be taking a risk or gaining an asset...
and i hope there really won't be a problem getting a job for marketing since so many people are going into it!
IMO the only reason to wait to get your Master's is if you select an employer that would help you pay for it.

I base my words of what managers, directors and executives have told me and their education backgrounds. My friend Pat just graduated with a masters in CompSci and is working his first corporate job at a salary of 59K + Bonus. Also his masters only took 1 year after he received his BS degree. One thing that almost deterred me from persuing my masters is that I was currently employed full time right after college. However I am almost 1/3 done with completing a doublemasters (MBA/MIS) at BU online. Estimated time, about 3-4 years part time / 2 years full time. Sounds great to me. |

MBA MIS worth it definately
MBA MIS worth it definately
a master's degree is typically a good thing to have. my advice would be to decide what career you want to focus on and ask people in that field about it. a MBA is good if you want to get into business and dont have an undergrad degree in business. if you already have an undergrad degree in business than you would probably be better off going for a specialized masters.

Of course getting a masters degree will be beneficial. There's more and more careers that are requiring masters degree. I'm going to get my masters right after I finish my Bachelor's....in Psychology. You practically need one to do almost anything in Psychology. Even education...having a masters degree helps. Doesn't really matter what it is though....
I hope they're beneficial anyway cos I start one in 5 days

I graduated last week with my master's degree in engineering. and i can expect to get a *minimum* salary of 60-65 K per year as an entry level engineer. If I get a job in a good company, the pay can be significantly more. Something like 70, 80 K for starters. So, yeah, Master's Degree pays
Since Masters degree is higher in terms of knowledge value as compared to bachelors degree, the course work will be difficult. Plus the job will be more intensive and will not be as easy as a bachelor's degree job. And hence, the pay will also be more.
So you need to decide whether you wana seek the extra knowledge, have that extra interest, want to pay the extra price and study the extra bit to get a better salary in the end!!
yeah i need to see my advisor next month i get back to school. and the only thing is i know if i do go to get the m.b.a, not to wait too late to get it

Im waiting to get my government job. Then I can get as many masters degrees as I want.
Yeah, I'm facing the same dilemma as well. I'm going into the third year of a management degree, and considering doing a masters straight after, not an MBA (since you often needs experience with that).
What's a good business related masters to take these days? I'm cosidering international marketing, since my ambition is to become an expat in south east asia. For those who are doing, or have done, a masters, is it much more difficult in terms of the amount of work you do, or in terms of it being much more intellectually challenging than an undergrad degree, or something else?
