Goin' to Istanbul..:D

Hiya guys..

Well..I'm off vacationing in Istanbul, Turkey...and would love a few pointers on the country from ppl living there or who have visited it, etc..

Ok..first off..I heard security was shite in Turkey..like u could get mugged in the middle of a main street and shit..lol

Secondly..what r the prices like there...from fast food to fancy restaurants..??

Just gimme any tips/info on places to go..nightlife, etc..should be a blast hopefully..

Goin' on Friday, so replies before that plzzzzzz..lol

Cheers

Its an awesome place. The Grand Bazaar is the first place you must go to! Just remember to haggle harshly. No Remorse dude. If they latch onto you & try & pull you into their shop, just keep walking and dont give into their fast talking bs. My general rule for haggling is to half there price, then half it again & start from there. If they dont agree with your price then just walk away! You may end up walking out of the place with 10 pairs of shoes, a Turkish rug, some tiles and a gold neck lace

Also make sure you check out the blue mosque You can easily walk there from the grand Bazaar. There are a few mosques with walking distance in that area.

I was not sure about some of the food. My advice is to not eat any market food or to get anything that may have been sitting there for too long.

They are nice people the Turks

What's the avg. price there for food??

What's the security like..any curfews??

No Curfews!

Security?? The turkish are very accomadating & friendly people. If anything it all depends where you stay and what part of the city. I had no problems, but I had my visa, passport & some spare cash in a gun holster style bag under my shirt. My pocket wallet just had the days cash in it. I wouldn't worry too much about security anyhow. They need tourism there; they need the income so they are welcoming to tourists.

Food is cheap. Prices I cant remember. The Lira is probably close to half the american dollar; check it out at the exchange when passing through the airport anyhow.

*Edit* you live in egypt?? and youre worried about security?

MMM...livin' in Cairo, Egypt m8..and yea..its absolutely safe..the bombings that happened where in Taba and Sharm el Sheik..and that's in Sinai..

Egypt is awesome..u should come visit..and defo way safer than Turkey from what I've heard!!

I'm gettin' a gun holster thingy as well..seems the best option..

So..any other places than the Grand Bazaar and Blue Mosque worth the visit..I heard there were tons of stuff to do there..

Are there any virgin megastores and sports shops in Turkey..selling soccer kits and shit??

Cheers

Hi dude,

I hope you'll have a great time there. If you want to go out be sure to visit Taksim. I'm turkish but born and raised in Holland so I don't know much about Turkey.

Maybe for some culture influence: some underground hystorical place
