stopped by the mall today, thought it would be a good idea to check out some new headphones. went to the sony store, and saw the mdrv700 , 600 , 500 on the shelf, none on display. im pretty interested in the v700 so i asked the guy if he had any of those on display. none of the 500 to 700s were on display. He also mentioned a new policy of which one could not return open packaged headphones or something of the sort. was curious about their selling price so i asked; 230$ for the 700's, 160 for the 600s 100 for the 500s without tax. canadian. Then i start thinking how ridiculous these prices are so i tell him that. He said if i found retailers that are selling it for cheaper that i bring it to him and hell match the price. I asked him for the criteria that the retailer has to follow before i bring him this price; he then responded -- sears, the bay. ok that was a joke. Then he told me to log onto the nearest computer and find him some prices of the v700. 25seconds later i came up with like 15 results of prices ranging from 82-150$. He then argued that these were american prices but then i reminded him about the exchange rate being quite close lol. anywaysssssssssss - dont go there. i have too much time on my hands.
High majority of Canadian retailers will refuse to match any online prices due to their views of shipping costs, currency exchange, and border taxes. They use the argument making the assumption to say that it would end up costing the same.
Purchasing items in Canada is very frustrating at times because of this.
Sony Central is expensive here too. Unless you want something Sony which you literally can't find elsewhere you're better off going to an independent store. At least thats how it is here (and obviously Canada too)

you know what though, this may sound a bit odd to some, but expected to others, a friend and I (another TA actually) have the same V700's, or so we think, i hate mine, the sound quality is garbage and i always find myself turning up the lows to properly match tracks...i bought mine on eBay. His, Purchased at the Sony Store...sound incredibly crisp and perfect...plus the padding on the headphone cups is much better...ya get what ya pay for...
you must have fell for the Z700DJ headphone lookalikes. those are complete garbage.

ohh.
someone was trying to sell me z700's for 1/2 the price of v700's.
he told me its what they were called in japan.
