Being a cop

would you? i'm thinking about it,

not because i want to uphold the law, but i like the perks, and you get a gun.

Lol. Being a cop sounds like a crappy job, the pay isn't even that great over time.

Posted by EXTREMUM on Sep-03-2006 22:37:

UNless you're LAPD or SCPD, the pay will suck.

Posted by Orbax on Sep-03-2006 22:40:

the beginning pay rate in my area was 40k+ a year.

Was going to do it but got into programming

You'll have a higher life expectancy, with Programming. Keep it up!

I think you would fail the psych eval and or the background check.

Move to the US. Mainly Long Island. The cops here in Nassau county get a starting salary of $90k + benefits. The average cop gets a salary of $120k around here.

Suffolk County, Long Island is the highest paid.

Debatable. It's gone back and forth between the two counties over the past decade. I'll take your word that Suffolk has a current better salary. I'd just prefer to live in Nassau since it's right next to Queens and the rest fo the city.

Nassau county really has it's head on straight if they use this on their website to vote for the official Nassau County bird:

I'd rather be an officer, in Suffolk COunty. I've lived there practically all my life, and I know how harsh the towns of Nassau County can be.

That's precisely it. I've been attending Stony Brook University for 3 years AND I have a summer house towards the end of the island... but I seriously can not stand those areas since there's nothing to do there.

Plus, I was a volunteer firefighter for a few years and I've heard some really fun stories from the cops in Nassau. Great stuff.

@ jdat... I can't believe they used that image.

Hamptons? Sweet! Also, interesting to know there's a resident Long Islander here.

True, but it's very peaceful. I plan on moving back to my hometown (LI, NY), after my lease is up over here.

I guess it's just my young blood. Me loves the city.

I think that is just equivalent to the cost of living. That would be like making 30k out in the middle of nowhere nebraska. Yes it sounds like a lot... but when it boils down living, it isnt all that much for living in long island.

Let's not forget that half of the force lives in Brooklyn/Queens. Otherwise, what you say makes perfect sense. But still, it's fairly comfortable living.

Oh wow, yeah - nothing to do, out there. However, the vineyards are nice - that's about it.

Fruit picking is always fun... Heh.

I love Splish Splash and Tanger Outlet Mall. That's probably the extent of it.
