REVIEW :: ARMIN @ STEREO :: September 3rd, 2006
Holy shit...
One of my best nights out...
Pleasure to see so many people. Charlie, Sam (thank you <3), I'm probably forgetting people, Wizz and a lurker. :P
Armin belted out a dark and dirty (to Armin standards) set that blew the roof off Stereo. Of course he played some fluff but the majority of the stuff was killer basslines.
By the way, I pledge allegeance to Stereo. ARIA will always be my home but Stereo has Montreal's best vibe and sound system. Kudo and thanks to Produkt and Bal en blanc for the awesome party!
What did you guys think?
good pills?
fcukin sickkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk
wow
am still amazed
Just got home few minutes ago .
First I arrived around 3h30 I thought there was going to be a huge line-up but since I already had my tickets, I got right in.
Stereo was ok, they didnt do anything special for that night.
Wizz was playing an awesome set; he really was the best guy to open for Armin.
He played a lot of huge tracks, and the last hour turn it up a notch just before Armin arrived.
Then Armin arrived and the crowd was going wild (anyway I was), there was half people that came to see Armin and half that where just there because its Stereo. (Black & Blue crowd)
Armin set was amazing, really hard track with a lot of bass. He played a couple of trancy track but the set was really nothing near like NYE at Red-lite or when I saw him in Toronto few days before Bal en Blanc where it was uplifting trance with a lot of vocal. Most of the tracks I would know the name but few like Aalto - 5, Thomas Bronzwaer - Shadow World, Dogzilla Without You knock me off my feet. And finally my favorite classic Trance Track. Way Out West - Mindcircus. Armin played for about 4h20. Its a shame he played in Toronto before, because I believe that he would have keep going to make a 5 hour set.
Wizz came back for 45 minutes from 10h15 to 11h played smooth everyone was leaving and everybody was so tired.
Overall wonderful night, so happy I didnt miss it. Saw a few TA, wondering now whats next?

Wizz did great. Really good warmup set. Especially digged the Lethal Industry drop. That got a crowd reaccctttion.
I'm with you BO18... I'm speechless about the night. Armin... wow...
I'm glad you guys had a great night !
I hope I'll be able to see Armin next time...
That man is a God.
Armin needs to be crowned number one!

If you compare this week-end Ferry @ Aria VS Armin @ Stereo it's not even a close race from my point of vue.
Armin wins all the way. Armin has a chance for #1 this year we'll find out end of september.

WOW !
long time without posting !
we arrived at 12:30 and went the bar to hear the end of insomnia's set, then Ulrich Van Bell jumped on the decks. nice ! great tracks you dropped(!beautiful!). then we went to the main event (waiting +or-20minutes to get in)
the first dj (wizz?) was excellent. Nice track selection, nice mixes, the vibes were WOW. WOW again. everybody friendly and kind. this is what i like with big names, you don't get the 'im drunk lets go to an after' guys.
as for armin, i though i was going to hear a combination of the last ASOTs(of course we did), but he also played different stuff (with agressive mixing)
add to the tracklist :
Above and Beyond - TriState(Frase remix?) (thumbs up)
Above and Beyond - Air for life
Sophie Sugar - Fallen Too Far
Kyau & Albert - Are You Fine (I don't really like this one, but it sounded great..)
Eric Prydz vs. Pink Floyd - Proper Education
Cosmic Gate - Should have Known
Armin van Buuren - Control Freak
Armin van Buuren - Sail (carl b's mix)
and more from what is playing everyweek.
but believe me, it was NOT a radio show.
some of you missed one of the best night ever.
Those who were there, i salute you. you are the living proof that a great evening starts with the crowd.

Got to Stereo around 4:30... was a bit hungry so we decided to grab a bite to eat at the little cafe next door... I must say, eating food (out) with trance playing in the background is amazing
We need cafes like that in Ottawa.
Anyhow, got in the club around 5:30... danced around a bit, walked around to see what the place looks like. Then Armin came on around 5:50 and like everyone else posted, he played a very energetic set with lots of dark hard tracks. I'd never heard him play like that, but PartEgurl thought it's cause he played Labour of Love first, got all hyper and came to Montreal!!!
Sang along to the few vocal tracks he dropped, and did my best to keep up with the crowd in dancing. Solarstone - Seven Cities was great to hear on a big sound system... and what a sound system. Superb balance of frequencies, you could hear all the ranges standing anywhere in that club, WOW
Get this, so we're walking out and we found a poster on the wall for the show. We ask the bouncer if we can take it with us and he actually helps us take it down. We walk out and I see this guy carrying a record bag, and I'm thinking I know this guy... sure enough it's Dave (Armin's manager), and what do ya know, Armin's standing right there behind him!!!! I asked Armin if he had a marker to autograph the poster and he pulls one out of his pocket and signs the poster! We shook his hand and then he walked away to get in his SUV. Nice to see someone can be such a big DJ and still be down to earth and take a few seconds to sign autographs and shit
Woulda been nice to have my camera there to take pics with him too.. but oh well.
Oh and PartEgurl had a nice little surprise when she got to her car... I'll let her post what happened (if she wishes of course). All I can say is call her and get her to pick Lotto numbers for you!
Leaving Montreal in a couple of hours. Don't forget to vote for Armin in DJ Mag's poll... support the DJs you love
got in there at around 4:30 AM, kinda expected to wait in line to get in, but since we had tickets we went right through.. the place was already packed...wizz did an amazing job for the amount of time i saw him, i remember he dropped dogzilla's without you (dub), lethal industry (the whole crowd went nuts), can't remember anything else..armin came around 5:40 or 5:50 am.. started his set with proper education ( i think).. he played a very hard set (not the usual slow asot stuff).. he had a great crowd interaction.. some tunes i remember him dropping was Eric Prydz vs. Pink Floyd - Proper Education, dogzilla - without you (JOC remix), Re:Locate - Rogue, Perry O Neil - Bass Society, Mojado - Arena, Bodyrox - Yeah Yeah (D. Ramirez Remix / Markus Schulz Rework), Alex M.O.R.P.H. & Rank 1 - Life Less Ordinary,Jose Amnesia vs. Shawn Mitiska - My All (The Flash Brothers Remix), Kyau & Albert - Are You Fine?, Armin van Buuren - Control Freak (orignal mix/Sander van Doorn Remix), Aalto - 5, Sean Tyas - Lift, Divini & Warning - 4LB, Eurythmics - Sweet Dreams (??? remix) ,Randy Katana - Plastic Fantastic, Way out West - Mindcircus, i forgot what the last tune he played is called
Armin ended his set at around 10:15 AM and people started to leave, didn't get the chance to stay for wizz since my feet were KILLING me but all in all the night was GREAT, also got a chance to thank him personally for the set outside of Stereo

I haven't posted a review in months, does anyone even remember me?
Armin played hard!
WOW, great crowd, great music, amazing sound. what more can I ask, i am blown away.
I only hope stereo continues to have nights like this out of their typical norm. Don't let anything die!
House is king in montreal, electro is rising to the second spot, and
well trance, it's there but hear my words fading
I would be crying my eyes out to sleep knowing I missed a night like this.
Those of you who were there added the extra smile and added the missing peice to the final masterpeice.
Thanks Montreal
Piano

It had my cell phone, ipod and wallet in it. When we got back to the car everything was exactly how we left it, nothing missing.
Armin was trying to keep the set with uplifting trance, and everytime he was trying the crowd wasn't following at all.. (except maybe some of you TAs). all they wanted to hear was kind of tracks like sweet dreams (*should have never been released* remix) and the police - SOS.. he was always trying to make hands raise at the uplifting moments, but no-one was following.. anyway, for the first hour and a half, it was really great, but after that he started mixing hard stuff with just a killing bassline.. it was still a pretty good set, with trax like:
ronski speed & stoneface & terminal - incognition (club mix)
purple haze - eden
giuseppe ottaviani - until monday (unknown remix)
Falkon & Fairlite - Moonfish (Samuelzone's Damn Damage Remix)
super 8 vs dj tab - helsinki scorchin
Sean Tyas tracks
and many many more...
could have been REALLY worst (like bal en blanc), or it could have been a lot better (like @ Red-Lite on NYE)
so the point is, i'm not blaming Armin for this set cuz all the fault is on the crowd that was there... this is in these kind of circumstances that you realise that where the DJ is mixing and the crowd that is gonna be there can affect a lot on the mix itself.
BTW Wizz was a !!MUST!!
