I just got tricked into buying a defective cdj-800
So on friday September 1st i went to go shoppiing for dj gear. I needed a mixer and was looking for a cdj but with no real intention of buying one. Anyways i test the cdj-800 (not mk2) that they had...it was a demo model that they were willing to sell at 475 out the door (expensive, however cheaper than buying a new cdj mk2 for 635). Unfortunately no sound was coming out when we put in cds...then i am like alright looks like i wont' be buying that so i am about to leave with my brand new mixer and then right as i exit a different employeee asks if i was gonna buy the cdj-800. I say that it wasn't working and then when we go to try it out....it works and i am like alright ill buy it. So i leave the store with a new mixer and a barely used demo model of the cdj-800. in any event i bring it to my gig that i had that night. I put in a cd and it works....so nice i get the use the cdj. I then try to do a loop...the music cuts off...i am like wtf...i try to eject the cd and its says eject but the cd doesn't come out for like 2 minutes of waiting so i power it off and then power it back on and the unit still wont' ouput sound however my cd comes out. I turn it off and don't use if for the rest of the night. Then today i try to play with it and the sound works but i notice that the platter spins inconstantly. At certain moments it will spin back very easily other times the platter spins back for half a second. So now i have a cd player with a messed up platter and a tendency to cut off sound and freeze up. I forgot to mention that this authorized dealer isn't willing to take back my cd player even though i bought it two days ago....wtf
any suggestions?
Fire bomb that fucking place.

sellin ur existing setup, get a mac, get ableton, dj happyily ever after .
Before you return to the store I highly recommend you check to see if the store is listed on www.bbb.org.
See if the store has had any past complaints file against them, what the complaints were for, and what the outcome was (Resolved or outstanding).
Also check through Pioneers website to see if they are a legitimate authorized dealer.
With this information which could help you gain weight and use that information as pressure points go back to the store:
1.Ask to speak to the manager of the store.
If he refuses to cooperate tell him you will be contacting the Better Business Bureau to file a complaint as well as Pioneer.
2. Contact your local Better Business Bureau; look up the info at www.bbb.org, file a complaint.
2a.Try contacting Pioneer explaining the situation with one of their authorized resellers.
You must insist at all times on the fact you were pressured into buying the item and that you were not instructed of any specific policies for returning demo items.
Actually what was the reason they gave you for refusing to take the item back?
they told me they don't take returns today however i was never told that i there was no return policy... btw i got a reciept today after asking for one (i never recieved one originally).
they did say however i could exchange for store credit but there is nothing i could buy in there except for a cdj-800mk2 which they sell for 650...which i don't have...besides i don't want to do business with these guys again...
dude you got dirt on THEM.
smack them up... verbally

i never got a receipt because the store is shady like that...they don't give reciepts...ridiculous...the reciept has the return policy but i didn't get it until two days after the purchase...
anyways i went to the store today...i told them i want a return and they told me to get an mk2 instead but i was like i can't afford it so i want my money. I threatened to call pioneer and the better business bureau however they were not willing to comply. I told them that they knowingly sold me something defective however they still werne't willing to fulfill my request. so now i wait till tomorrow for a new cdj from another store.

Wait until you see what the BBB and Pioneer can do for you before you go spending money. You may be reimbursed or compensated in some way. |

san francisco
BBB is good, I have used them.
Also some countries/states have a small-claims court where for a small fee you can take your case before a judge (without a lawyer) and he can decide if you were ripped off and order them to refund you.
If you have such a system there you could get the forms and threaten to go forward with this and that alone could get some action from the store, they will not want to go to court.
which store is this?
fuck that id walk in there with the 800 and if they wouldnt give a refund id walk out with a 1000mk2, whether they liked it or not.
don't take a new cdj from them. they're this much of a pain with something that was defective the moment you left the store, what are you going to do if the new one develops a fault in 9 months time? go through the same crap only worse.
do what folks suggested, your consumer rights bodies, pioneer etc. don't give in and put yourself in line for even more grief.
And put superglue in the front door locks one night
wold of stereo II. this place has always beens shady and i am so surprised pioneer authorized these guys and not djdeals. in any event they offering to give me store credit so ill just buy and mk2 just to save grief...btw i called pioneer and they were like just get it repaired...i did buy it new so i still have a warranty...i just wanted my money back thats all...
