what are the negatives?

Still working (incredibly slowly ) on my first trance tune. Took some advice on here recently to try and give more drive to my tune.

Still working on the build at the moment. Would anyone care to list the negatives they can pick out from this sample. Feel free to point out positives if there are any.

Any feedback welcome.

Thanks very much

Kick has no punch..and sounds too subby for me. The snare sounds too sudden and thin if you know what i mean by that. I like the percussion sounds that play around for a bit..or whatever that was. Not so fond of the bass sound though. Keep working, what you have so far sounds really interesting x]

Kick wasn't so bad imo, snare on the other hand... Synths need a lot of eq'ing. Also use different kinds of sounds to give more definition to a single sound.

kick is fine imo. a nice sound to it. snare is also perfect.

bass is good and percs are nice.

about 1/3 of the way through i think the new synth is not very good. its kinda a bit 'weak'..

listening to the track i would say you have the right idea. clean, well mixed. the track has some traights from stephan bodzin tracks of these days. and i like that sound.

maybe try some better synth sound that suits your perc and bass sounds.

Thanks for all the replies. Some good stuff here to point me in the right direction. Think I am gonna replace the snare and work on the kick to start with.

In terms of eq'ing the synths. I've already eq'd loads. Find it really difficult to cut frequencies from sounds so they fit better in the mix without taking all the life out of the sound.

Eq'ing and proper use of compression are in my opinion the hardest things to get right. Just gotta keep at it I suppose and practice, practice, practice. (aswell as holoding down a full time job, girlfriend and a busy social life )
