max/supercollider/PD

Heya, I saw a thread about visual synth programming a while ago and got kinda interested in that stuff, I downloaded the demo of Max/msp but now the time's run out I was wondering about the differences between the free stuff like Jmax and PD and the expensive stuff like Max/msp.
From what I see it's mainly just documentation right? Is the docs on jmax or PD that much worse than max?
Also is there a version of SC for windows? I thought I saw something about it but maybe I'm confused. I know there are some knowledgable people around here with this stuff! Any help appreciated!

this is great stuff
not really trance at all though
i love it
in the computing world, free apps are king. this stuff is mostly done at universities for experimental/algorithmic music composing programs. max/msp is ok, but it's oscillators are far weakers than sc. pd is the same, same code units even, same guy - max p. there are separate forums for each of these at electromusic. i never could get any interest here. part of the reason is this stuff is for experimenting, the least efficient way i could think of to make trance. it's really for making weird sounds and triggering them with algorithms, equations, or just randomnly/chaotically. if you like idm, look forward to seeing you around!

yeah mainly I was thinking about its possibilities for drums and rhythm stuff, although looking at a song like windowlicker you could do cool stuff with vocals too. Thanks for the tip about electromusic, will go and check that out.
