Arrow If you had to choose between blindness or deafness

What would you "choose"?
Personally I would rather be deaf than blind. This may sound strange on this music-forum, but if you weight it out, I'd rather see and hear nothing. By not hearing, you can still drive, work, watch TV and so on.
On the other hand, if you choose blindness you can hear trance... But no

LOL

this is what I call a typical cosmic guy thread.. it is like chosing between dieing and dieing...

I have only one fear in my life: become blind... not being able to see ANYTHING.... no girls, no cars, no state of mind of other persons (down in the mood etc.).. you barely can't do anything without help....

deafness would still suck nevertheless... not hearing ANY form of music again.. no sounds of nature, no sounds of a girl that tells you how much she loves you ... plus you can't hear yourself talking....weird idea...

but what people say can also be written down... so that is a good thing

OH man what a toughie~!!!! Shiat. Well when it really comes down to it...I would rather be deaf as well. I can't imagine not being able to see the sun set, the faces of loved ones...Although I don't know how I could survive without hearing my trance...dang. This is getting me depressed just thinking about it.

I'd choose to be mute..
no, I would never give up sight, there's so much yet to see

Posted by Cosmic on Mar-11-2002 16:30:

I can't imagine how someone can live without being able to see AND hear. I think that's the worst thing a human can happen.
Think about it. You dont know how people look like, you can't hear anything, the only thing you see in all black...

Posted by Tranex02 on Mar-11-2002 17:32:

it is pretty upsetting just thinking about it...
you can't really speak if you can't hear....
i would rather be deaf..

Posted by AnotherWay83 on Mar-11-2002 17:46:

yeah i think i'd rather be deaf...and i think that thats what most people mite choose, because humans are a highly visual species...

peace

Well this is very hard, coz i would like to see the world, and how wonderful it is, and obviously the people, but if i was deaf i wouldnt no about the wonderful world of trance, but then i wouldnt be able to read this forum. I dont really like to think about it. I just think i am lucky that there is nought wrong with me

Posted by Vivid Boy on Mar-11-2002 17:53:

i would rather be blind because the worst sound is the sound of silence

Posted by Spyder on Mar-11-2002 17:59:

Confused

i dont know... at first i would choose deafness cuz it would kill me to be so slow..
but then how could i live with out muzic.. so blindness would be a consideration..

but i say deafness i cant stand seeing the suffering some blind ppl go through....

well if you were deaf you could still FEEL trance at your local club or rave, and the lasers would only be cooler then. so thats my choice, alt its hardly a choice. late/

Deaf4sure!
Hate to miss music and all other sounds, but not being able to check things out is far worse imho.
Blindness makes you very dependent, the handicap is just far worse!
I once saw this tv show and it featured a dude which was deaf and still went to all these parties and when they asked him howcome, he said, that if the music is loud enough, he could feel the vibrations of the bassdrum and thus have a sense of music!
The guy was dancing around on the music like everyone else even though he couldn't "hear" shit, he could feel the beat.
And if you're deaf you can allways try and learn to read lips, plus with a notebook and a pencil you can get a long way either.
So pretty fuckin' please with sugar on top, don't make me blind, ever!!
Allthough i really believe blindness and deafness will be cured so to speak in the years to come, by fine tuning a bunch of chips and receptors and wetwiring them.

i would rather be deaf because u can learn how to talk with sign language....

I pick deafness as well. Look at beethoven, he was definitely able to immerse himself in the music world! I would probably pathetically play Airwave over and over in my head. Doubt i have the skill to beatmatch while deaf...brings up an intereting question! You could still enjoy a rave while deaf, you could supposedly feel the floor shaking. hmm
while pondering that, think I will enjoy my senses while I have them and watch that Marco V video.

has anyone seen the movie "JOHNNY GOT HIS GUN"..
pretty disturbing, but deffinitly gives you a different grip on reality.. highly reccomended

anyways, i would choose deafness too.. not being able to see would scare me.. i have a hard enough time in the dark night

Posted by elena on Mar-12-2002 03:52:

dood thats way too tough you gotta give it the third option MUTENESS
thats the one id go for...i dont have to speak every i kinda wish i was mute sometimes (though it sounds fukced up n ya i know)..but sometimes people are better off without speaking and some that shouldnt speak.

but...hmmm...id rather be deaf yes..
visuals always work for music..like in that movie mr.hollan opus or such

fck you, get your facts straight before stereotyping all deaf people, in fact i am deaf myself and do i regard myself as "slow?"

i have 10 GCSE's at A-C level, i have an Advanced GNVQ in Computers

let me tell you i am doing a HND in software engineering, and in september i may be moving onto the 2nd year of the degree course in queens university, which is probably in the top 10 ten unis in the uk.

you, on the otherhand can not even fcking spell, nor have a firm grasp of grammar.

you know that a percentage of deaf people who are "slow" have not had the chance to recieve a proper education because people view them as "dumb."

if deaf people can create a language, is that dumb?

people like you should be educated about minoritys.

i have hearing aids, i can "hear" the music, in nightclubs its so loud and has people cheering and whatever. i take my hearing aids out to hear the music perfectly clearly and without the cheering etc. i can tell the difference between the s&g remix of lethal industry from the picotto version.

My girlfreinds uncle is deaf and I was surprized at just how much of a normal and social life deaf people have. He's out most nights and has a nice looking girlfreind. It would be very hard for any of us to lose our hearing now as we are so used to hearing the every day sounds around us but if u were born deaf I suppose you would'nt know any diffrent.

Posted by WhoSane on Mar-17-2002 01:36:

yeah thats a really tough decision..and i know..cuz my sister is deaf..shes faced a bunch of problems wen she was younger..it would suck either ways, but id prefer deaf over blindness, and having seen my sister is such a situation..i know how hard it can be..and i rather deal with being deaf..not sayin its easy being deaf! i bet its hard as hell, emotional pain!

Posted by Sand Leaper on Mar-17-2002 20:49:

Dunno

Tough one.Sight is important, but how can you live without music? It's just too depressing to think of life without one of those senses.I think I'll just be grateful for having both of them intact.
