Dropped Telus Phone in Sink

I just dropped my telus phone in my sink and it turns on initially but is not working properly... it turn off after a few seconds

i bought it under a month ago...

i need some advice! what do i do? aka what is the easiest way for me to get a new phone from them for free

great opporunity to rethink your decision to go with CDMA Telus, and consider switching over to GSM.. especially if you want a nicer looking phone

no chance in getting a 'free' phone unless you're prepared to enter into at least a 2-3 year contract, and that goes for any provider. the 'free' phones that companies offer aren't free, they're just subsidized through your agreement to be bounded by their service as per your contract.

i'd go eBay or Howardforums.com if you're looking for a deal ..

give your phone a few days to dry out and it still might be ok. i dropped mine in bucket of water and it sat there vibrating for 3 days and then worked fine. just pop out the battery and blow some air from a hairdryer around it and there still might be hope.

well i originally got this phone on a 2 year contract so cant i just tell them this phone is broken, and it should still be under warranty so they should be able to either fix it or give me a new one

Any chance you paid for it with your credit card? If so, some credit cards have loss/damage/theft insurance on them.

I found this out after I bought some super expensive sunglasses and proceeded to sit on them the next day.

If Telus is anything like Bell, good luck. Bell Warrenty service is crap. Friend of mine, took her phone in 3 times with the same problem, and they returned it each time saying the problem is fixed.

Best thing about Rogers/Fido, if anything happens to your phone you have a large market to shop for a new one.

ouch, that sucks! Ive managed to go through a few phones, lucky, Ive had work to pay for them.

Posted by Cosmic Fur on Sep-08-2006 16:10:

Go to the Telus booth in person, and try explaining to the Telus employee that you were mugged in the Entertainment District yesterday, and that your phone as well as your wallet was tragically stolen. Explain to him that now you have no phone and you can't even buy a new one cause your wallet was stolen too.

Here, the employee has one of two choices, either give you a new one, or tell you he can't just go around giving whoever wants a new phone a new phone. If he does the latter, here is what you say:

"Okay okay, I come clean now. You see, I was talking to my recently-pregnant girlfriend on the phone in the bathroom while taking my morning shave, and you know, the mirror was steamed up so I couldn't see my poor phone slowly slipping out of my hand, *sniff*, and I was a little emotional too, *sniff*, and the next thing I know I feel it slipping out of my hand and into the sink filled with water! *sniff* I tried to make a last-minute grab for it, but alas! *sniff* the razor was in my other hand, and I just couldn't grab it in time! I fished it out as fast as I could, but it was too late. *long pause* *sniff* I dried it off, but it still wouldn't turn on, *sniff* and now my girlfriend's mad at me cause I hung up on her, *sniff* and the Labour of Love sets were all wrong. *sniff*. WHY DID BENNY BENASSI CLOSE? HUH??? *sniff* CAN YOU TELL ME THAT?!??! Digweed had nowhere to go. Did he he? NU-UH, HE DIDN'T! *sniff* It's just *sniff* I love Digweed so much, and Benassi was the one closing? *sniff* WHAT IN THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH THE WORLD??!!"

Now here, gauge the reaction of the employee. If it still doesn't look like he's about to crack, break out the waterworks. And I don't mean girlish my-boyfriend-just-broke-up-with-me waterworks, I mean the REAL waterworks. The I-fucked-over-my-life-with-heroin waterworks. Sobbing, bawling, mumbling, snot streaming out your nose, the whole 9 yards.

After about 15 minutes of this, any employee will crack and give you your brand new phone.

Works everytime.

TRUST.

Not genius in its plausibility, genius in its comedic value.

I'm picturing the dude having a freak out in the middle of the mall. Awesome.

There's no way you're getting a new phone for free. Lie your ass off I guarantee they've heard it all. I know I have.

How about face up to the fact you are a cluts and buy a new phone and don't be a thief. If you can't afford a new phone then learn to live without one and start saving your money so you can have your precious phone.

+1.

It was your carlessness that dropped the phone. So you really need to face up to your responsibilty and get a new one.....the proper way.

well i work for telus mobility now in vancouver here, they wont get you a free phone, no inside trick will, most likely will give you options for a refurbished phone which you can buy.

P.S- Telus could care less if you broke the contract, either way they will collect 20$/month on their fees for the rest of their contract. Costs telus only 30$ to lose a customer, specially if your a very small to moderate user under 100$.

telus and bell FTL
sorry to hear about your loss. CDMA / IDEN providers are for the loss hugetime. your options are slim and getting a new phone is nearly as slim (for free).
a retail/instore/booth will do dick all but hand you a phone and say, you better call in. if they do more, then you lucked out hugetime.
you will probably have to speak with your phones insurnace company (THAT IS, if you got insurance on your phone. which by the sounds of it you did not...) whcih means you'll probably have to beg to either ACCOUNT SERVICES (RETENTION DEPARTMENT) [the department u call to cancel with]
or
CUSTOMER CARE [and in speaking with CARE you'll probaly have to speak with a supervisor, because i highly doubt a regular phone agent has the ability to just REPLACE your phone. and if they do, i would call back 5 minutes later and ask to have your NOTES read to you to confirm that they did infact do SOMETHING, and not just tell you yes yes yes and then click.

my suggestion on your method of going about this.

CALL CUSTOMER CARE.
-explain the situation, tell them this was a freak accident etc etc you cannot afford to buy a new phone. you DO plan to stay with them, you just need a replacement, what can they do?
+if they come back with dick all, get fed up (POLITELY) and ask to speak to a supervisor (always note to keep calm, seem angry but handle yourself professionally, or they wont help you period)
re-explain the problem. if that goes no where. tell them that this is just too much for you, threaten to cancel, and speak to ACCOUNT SERVICES / RETENTION department.
ACCOUNT SERVICES has power. these guys in alot of cases have more power then CUSTOMER CARE SUPERVISORS.
RE RE EXplain the problem, tell them that if u dont have a phone, your going to cancel your service due to lack there of help, and switch to FIDO/ROGERS.
always noting to be calm and professional.
if that doesnt help.
EBAY a new phone. and goodluck.
fido/rogers FTW
and goodluck

dude i have no idea why your saying telus/bell is losing big time infact they both have majority of the market share in cell phones, and most people who travel prefer CDMA all across North America. SInce GSM doesnt cover all areas, CDMA is by far very clear technology and very fast compared to GSM.

Infact telus has a very big chunk of MIKE in canada .

i never said they were losing big time. i said they were for the loss.
there is a difference. FOR THE LOSS is a personal opinion. not a fact of statistics.
GSM a.k.a. world phones clearly destroy any cdma iden technology as far as options go hands down. in my opinion the only benifits to cdma / iden is the walkie talkie feature, and thats not even relaly a big thing here in canada. Coverage is a subjective catagory based on where you live so i wont devulge into that.
and my name is wayne
not dude.
also GSM coverage world wide pwnts cdma and iden put together. they are however expanding.
