Awesome. My friend and I had this idea in first year (now in third). Any way I can sign up via email or something?

BTW, I'm at the Surrey campus as well. Amazing to see how many TA's are at SFU!

I've been lurking these forums for about a year now, but I just had to post in this topic! I go to SFU Surrey too (just started last week!) and would be really interested in having something happen at the Surrey campus. Tomorrow is the second club day at Surrey so it's obviously a little late for that, but it would be awesome to have something cool latter on.

which classes are you in? Im an old alumni that can't seem to gtf out of there. i'm taking a second, a fourth and two third year classes there. sorta of. lol.

yeah we tried to get a radio station going three years ago when I was taking kenneth newby's sound interaction course using the techbc bandwidth. they wouldn't sign off on the idea so it died right there. we were hoping to take a piece of the burnaby pie and put it at the surrey campus using a strictly digitally based radio (limitations of fm bandwidth plus cost of hardware, set up, training, etc to operate and/or transfer a secondary radio to surrey campus just doesn't add up).

armitage, if you're willing to meet up, perhaps we can get others involved somehow and we can talk to representatives at the university to see if we can cook something up. newby, if he's still there, might be interested, although he's a bit far out there. his ideals for what should happen, aren't quite there yet in terms of what's acceptable by even underground standards as appropriate in terms of having enough support to keep it going (but i could be wrong). could also talk to dulic if she's still there. you'd have more luck with the iart (IAT now) teachers as they're more willing to be experimental and try new things.

anyone from any sfu campus is more than welcome to come out to events...neither myself nor gav ever head out to the surrey campus so i doubt much will go on their that is organized by us, but feel free to come out to anything you want.

you can check out the website at http://sfuedmc.boomch.com to check out events and stuff (not quite yet).

we are having a meeting the coming week to discuss ideas etc and bang out a basic schedule.

I'm actually on co-op right now. Third year business though, so I doubt I would be in any of your classes come Spring semester.

The radio station idea could work. The only issue would be with acquiring a room to operate from. The new campus is pretty tight for space as it is right now. My club is attempting to get ahold of an office, but has to wait until Fall 2007 to get one on the 5th floor of the Galleria.

yeah, there were two original concepts, one was to have it all run from a server, and people could upload pre-recorded shows via ftp and have an online system setup to manage the playlist (much like what many radio stations, ie party107, do, to allow for live sets, time scheduled/uploaded sets or to play from an archive, or like etn.fm, where daily the channel manager logs in to plug in that day's schedule from the uploaded sets). the other idea, was a room, where people could use the pc set up there to broadcast live their shows, like a mini-booth.

I'd love to help get something like started, but the thing is, I've only been going to university for a week now... so I'm not sure how helpful I would be. I'm pretty much still finding my way around the campus, so it's a little premature for me to be thinking of a big project like this. However if something was put together it would have my full support!
