Armin van Buuren @ Fur, GLOW 9/9/2006 [Review]

Well, he rocked it. It still amazes me how blown away I am every single time I see him dj because I've already set my expectations high with his sets and he delivers every time.

He played a lot of tunes I couldn't recognize, but that could be due to the fact that I don't listen to ASOT or I'm not big on trying to keep up with all of the latest tracks. But they were all brilliant. It was nice how he opened the set because he didn't bang out trance right away and really just worked the crowd. And what the heck was that 2nd track?!?!?! Sounded like a 1983 vs Aftermath vs (I know the track from the lyrics but cant put it together). It was a friggin BOMB though! And he rocked Pink Floyd - The Wall (Remix?)!!!!

Great seeing and hanging out with Gerard and Chris again. You guys are awesome! Breakfast and Big Mike were killing it onstage with Armin! And Erin where were you?!?!

Oh, and I have to say my Mom had such a great time! She danced non-stop from 11 till 4:30, when we left. She got Armin to sign her Shivers cd booklet and went absolutely nuts!!!!!!! Thank you Armin and everyone else that went and added to the absolute fantastic time that we all had.

Mindcircus

Almost forgot...

I got there fairly early, and was there to say hi to Armin when he came in, he was setting up his tracks and other stuff. If you guys knew me you would know im one of the biggest Armin fans on these boards. But I was so highly disppointed in flying from Miami to DC for such a weak set. Dont get me wrong there were many good tunes, but it was mainly an elevator set up and down. Most great tunes were followed by something that slowed the pace down. The intro tune made me think it was going to be hell of night. But I was wrong. As far as Club Fur/Glow goes. For such a big club there sound system needs huuuuge improvement, most of the track missed most of there climax due to the crappy subs and speakers it didnt sound as crisp as other huge club sound systems. And the guy with the lights need lessons. They have the right equipment but horrible person working them. The crowd was one of the worse I have ever seen in my life. If you guys would see a good Armin show he really doesnt have to try to get the crowd hype like last night. He kept telling the crowd to get hype. Which is a first for me, and I have seen him 5 times previous to this one. And I thought I was in DC not Tokyo downtown on some E , some people need to learn how to conduct themselves. STOP ACTING LIKE SAVAGES. I almost got kicked out from a retard kept pushing me and bumping on drugs. I pushed him so hard he went flying and fell he had no idea who pushed him, and he left. I left one hour shy of the six hours. To be exactly I left when Love you More was finishing. This is the first disappointment I get from Armin. And I am so upset because of this my friends no longer want to go to The Neatherlands AHOY.

They cancel a trip overseas because of a bad night at a club in the US?

Posted by DeRangedMind on Sep-11-2006 01:53:

D.C. has the worst crowd out any venue I have ever been to and yes I do agree there sound system doesn't sound good because they hink turning the volume all the way up works
Also I think his set was decent but he missed on playing a few track that I wanted to hear and he needs to stop playing the dumb John O Crap remix Without You . MMMMMMMMan did his encore fuckin suck, who hasn't heard Satalite 1 MILLION TIMES

Posted by armada3 on Sep-11-2006 02:19:

it's a nice encore, no need to complain. People love that song

First time seeing Armin lay down a serious trance set and I have to agree with a lot of what has already been said. First, the crowd was simply unbearable until around 2:30. The sound system sounded off for some reason, when I saw ferry earlier this summer the system sounded a lot better. Is that possible? The lights weren't great, but I wasn't expecting anything special.

As for armin, I thought he put forth a really solid t/l - tons of good tunes and the man plays with a lot of energy, which at times the crowd reciprocated. I missed his first hour, but I felt Armin seemed to be interlaying miniature sets where he'd crescendo and then come back down and that, in turn, formed the set as a whole. That may not even make sense, but that's kind of how I felt as I was hearing it.

To all the ta's I met, thanks for a great night! We need to do it again soon!

This was the most unique set I've ever heard from Armin. In a sense it was all over the place, but I dug it. A lot actually. The Overton acapella over 1983 was amazing. Everyone was feeling the Prydz mix of Proper Education!! And hearing Sunhump on a system... ahhhh, the rest of the night was icing on the cake

Haha James your right... Mindcircus was a damn good surprise. Really great to see you there man! I sure hope you can make it to Crobar!

There were a ton of classics played towards the end of the night. My only problem w/ that was not the track selection.. but rather the choice to play them at Glow. A track like Seven Cities to cap off the night is supposed to leave a crowd in awe... instead I saw ppl standing around and talking on the dance floor. The crowd has got to be into it and create an atmosphere worthy of the track. I guess it was a little disheartening. I'm not implying that a crowd has to be jumping around to be enjoying themselves... but blank faces are a clear indicator.

Regardless I had an amazing time as always with Armin at the helm. I really enjoyed the bits of house here and there. And the Schulz mix of Bodyrox - Yeah Yeah was sooo much fun!

Honestly that makes a lot of sense. Couldn't think of a better way to describe it

I was standing for awhile because Armin can play a better classic since I heard throw that track down 3 times as encore in the past 2 years. But really there just so many newbies nowadays who won't know some of these tracks what gems they really are

Also I heard Veronica - Carte Blancha but he played suck stupid remix that I want to get some plastic bottle from the floor and throw it at him

You heard it 3 times for the past two years so what? He's doing like 3 gigs per week ... And it's Veracocha - Carte Blanche. U don't like classics do u?

lookin at that tracklisting
half the tracks he played back in july when he was at the tobacco warehouse and yet his new asot shows are full of good quality tunes
iam not that excited about seeing him at crobar in a month

shitty pics.
thats all.

i thought it was a fun night. I heard all the songs that I expected to hear and I loved how he ended with Mindcircus and Seven Cities towards the end. He played for about six and a half hours. The only low-point of the night is the crowd. Fuckin drunk ass ppl shoving their way...can't stand it. Reminds me of Crobar. Overall fun night.

THANK GOD armin dropped some AWESOME classics from back in his 2002 days....sooo good!!! i ended up getting there pretty late...my friends from philly didn't get to my apt till like 12:30, then we got stopped by a cop on the way there (because my friend had a broken headlight) and THEN when we get to the club...they stopped letting people in. like, they let NO ONE in. finally, we get in at about 2:15 (lol....and it was my girl's birthday) but it was sick because our friends rented out the skybox (the vip table/booth over armin) and the view of the dance floor/crowd was absolutely unreal. we avoided the main dance floor at all costs because it was SOOO hot and sooo packed in there....so we chilled upstairs for a little too. then i had to make my way into the booth of course, which was nice, because i had ROOM to dance (with big mike!!) and relax. highlight of the night for me was definitely requesting "sky falls down" to armin earlier on and then him playing it for me as the last track of the night.

didn't get home until 10 am HAHA because dc was having afterparty after afterparty...it was a pretty good night, but i didn't get to see a lot of the people i had wanted to see since we got there so late and the crowd was just ridiculous. hope everyone had a fantastic time!

I think the complete difference in the reaction to the Eric Prydz vs. Pink Floyd - Proper Education track in this thread and the Steve Porter thread is pretty funny - http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...threadid=368810

You know what man, that song really made me understand and realise you haven't heard a song unless you have heard it in a club. I got sent that song yesterday and listened to it and though, wow if I hadn't already heard this to its full potential I probabaly wouldn't have though this song was really good. But in that club on that system it sounded incredible!

I had a good time.
I though the tracks Armin played were pretty quality. Plus, I brought my girl who is new to this entire scene, and she really loved it!!! I ended up leaving at about 3:30 b/c I tweaked my knee dancing (gaddam I'm getting old), and I was gettin' tired all the same. I will agree that a lot of people in the crowd sucked - just when I'd get four inches to dance in, some numbnut would throw his/her shoulder into me and then stand right where I was dancing - it can really piss you off after it happens 30 times in a row.

One question - can anybody ID the track that was playing at 1:30??? I know it's hard to ask that, but that track blew my friggin' mind!!!

I was dissapointed that I didn't get to see many TA's - Doombot, I was lookin' for you - but it's all good

The Glow system sucks. I really don't understand how you think it sounds good. I mean, Crobar's no Love or Cielo in terms of sound quality, but even it's better than Glow and is where Porter all the Porter review people heard it.

Secondly, anyone else find it funny that Steve Porter and Armin are sharing tracks? Not quite as funny as Armin sharing Oxia - Domino and Yoshimoto - Du What U Du (Trentemoller Remix) with all the minimal and tech house DJs, but still funny.

Where I was standing when I heard it and at that point, the sound was very nice. There are some bad spots in that club and I actually did notice later on in the night the sound got turned up. But at that point, the sound was spot on.

Who was that guy who kept on turning the Master Volume down? I was up in the vip. It was really crowd downstairs. Armin's set was good, but there just too many people there. I thought I was going to puke if I dance a little longer on the dance floor. My highlight was def Sunlounger-White Sand (DJ Shah Mix). The track itself definitely has lots of emotions to it. I didn't stay for the entire show, because I had to work the next day @ 11am.
