Scientific studies on genetics? (interracial)

Can someone point me to studies or articles that discuss interracial genetics. I've heard from several people that children of interracial parents have a higher chance of birth defects, but I am unaware if there's any truth to that.

I definitely know that the other extreme (incest) certainly carries very strong risks, but what about the case where people are very far apart genetically.
