Thinking of starting a demo mixes/tunes hosting site
Mods: sorry if this is in the wrong place and apologies for also posting it in Producers Promotion, but I think it's something that everyone might be interested in and I know lots of people who read this don't read Producers Promotion and vice versa. Please move it if you think it should be elsewhere.
Hey folks, I've been thinking about this for a little while and I'm considering building a section into my new website whereby people can upload demo tracks or mixes for others to download.
It would be similar to yousendit.com in that you upload the track then get a link where people can download it, although it'd be tailored for people seeking feedback on mixes and tracks they've made, so there would be features for you to put some details about you and your track/mix, etc.
I also might integrate a commenting system, whereby people who listen to your track can then leave comments about it on the site.
Obviously it would be free and wouldn't be riddled with ads, nor would it make you wait for ages before you can click on the link (like so many of these upload sites do)...
Just after your thoughts really, do you think you guys would find it useful? Have you got any comments or suggestions of things you'd like included?

Sounds like a good idea to me
You'd need some good bandwidth though, I up my mixes to my box I have in the states which has a 300 mbit/sec connection - but then again the amount of bandwidth you'll need depends on the intensity of the site and the demand on downloads.
Yup, I know bandwidth is something I'll have to check on - my web host is actually a mate so I might be able to negotiate a bit of a wider pipe
but first I need to test the bandwidth I've got at the mo and work out how many simultaneous uploads/downloads I can have without hitting snails' pace... and try and compare that to how popular I think it might be.
You definetely need to find out how much you'll be able to handle per month and wether or not you'll need to pay more. I think that's more important than the speed of it.
good idea, I have been hosting mixes for a few
months now and have not had any problems yet
very little in way of downloads, like 30 or 40
downloads seem average, I have them all spread
over 8 domains or 9 or something and still only
using 30 or so gigabytes in bandwidth
fun little hobby and good way to get more music!
have fun!
Stu I'm sure there would be plenty of takers for this oppotunity
Good luck & please keep us posted when the times comes to go live
