Tiesto asks fans not to vot on him (News-bulletin)

here's a short remarkable news-message that appeared on the dutch tele and today's paper.

(translated myself from dutch to english; hope u can read it)

quote:

DJ Tisto does not want to be world's number 1

Published; 13-09-2006

BREDA - DJ Tisto does no longer want to be the world's numer 1 DJ. On his web-page he summons to all his fans especially NOT to vote on him as the number 1 DJ of the world, for the yearly election by the English magazine DJ Mag. "Dont vote on me, vote for new talent", thus Tijs Verwest, his real name in the every day life.

For the last three years, the DJ won the election. "There are so many good, young DJ's out there. I have the feeling that its time to give them a chance."

Verwest is really happy with the support that he received the last few years. "I appreciate all the love and support i gathered from all the places in the world. But i have already won this price three times. If I should win, it wouldnt make any difference for my carrier. For DJ's who just started it would be a huge difference."

Votes for the British magazine are open until the 25th of september

From Tiest.com: "Hi Everybody,

I just finished my gig in Las Vegas half an hour ago. I had an epic weekend with four great shows. I spent a couple of days in Tahoe, went to Austin Texas, a festival in Chicago and the Global festival at the Palms hotel in Vegas.

Every night I went out with the promoter of the city I was in and most of them where bringing up the DJ Magazine top 100 voting. It's a big thing for most of the promoters and most of them will book DJ's that are high on this list.

That made me think, because if that's the case the voting is important. Especially to breed new talent.
There are so many new great young DJ's out there that I feel it's time to give them a chance. I appreciate all the love and support I get from all over the world but I won this award three times so if I would win it a fourth time, it wouldn't make a difference for my career.
For the new talented DJ's around the world it could make a difference, so I would like to ask all the people who support me to vote for new talent.

Don't vote for me, vote for the new breed!

I just voted myself and my personal top 5 is:

1.Eddie Halliwell
2.Sander van Doorn
3.Serge Devant
4.Blake Jarrell
5.Richard Durand

Thanks again to everybody who came to my shows and who bought the new single 'dance4life'!

Love,

Tisto"

I think he is absolutely right. He's made it. He has accomplished what he set out to do many years ago: make a NICE living playing the music he and his fans enjoy. How will winning the poll help him become more popular? More wealthy? It won't, and of course he realizes this. I agree. Vote in some new talent, and give them a shot at their dreams. Tijs could kick it and live a nice life without ever working again if he has invested even semi-wisely.

Well...since he asked so nicely...

Yeah I read it too.. he called Pvd a 'Dead Face' once somewhere.. and he hates Armin too.

Would be a real laugh if a lot of his fans would listen to him, Tisto who goes down 50 places

not going to happen though

srsly why should he "hate" them?

Posted by Tangil on Sep-14-2006 12:04:

Tiesto knows he's not going to be number 1 so he's just using this as an excuse.

yeah 'hate' was over-exageration, but there is some fight between them, Armin dosent play his tracks/mixes in his gigs and vice versa.

Yeah, they've only produced music together and remixed each other, they must have a fight going on!

You're so full of shit.

Tijs doesnt play Armin or Paul tracks because he believes, as with his own career - its now an important part of being the DJ to be the producer too. Each one should have their own signature tracks & sound. He doesnt play their productions out of respect (altho notably cheeky in interviews and just in good humour, that they wouldn't be good enough anyway).

Armin DOES play Tiesto tracks. Quite a lot of them actually.

So that justifies making wild assumptions that are based on nothing at all?
