retarded effects questions on pioneer mixers
Ok so I have been working off a numark bare bones mixer for the past year, finally upgraded to a djm 800
now i hear diff djs using diff effects live and i am wondering how they are done.
one is fwoooooooosssshhhhhhhhhhhhhh sound that gets louder and louder
so when the song is building up before it kicks in basically add that fwooooossssshhhh effect. Is that possible with the effects?
also are djs using delay or flanger or reverb or what when the song is building up and the dj switches the beat from like bum bum bum bum to buhduhduhduhduhduhduhduhduhduhduhdduhdudh then Lays it in on the beat when it comes in and carrys on with the song
i know these descriptions are retarded, i don't know how else to explain them. can anyone help me use effects in a non-retarded fashion?
heh, I own the djm-400, they are funny to mess around with, but havent really found much use for them myself.
i couldnt help but laugh at your post (not in a making fun sort of way just cheery laugh). the fwoosh effect is probably a filter sweep (im not too familiar with pio mixers so probably a bandpass filter if you have one). the other one is a "roll" or maybe "Reverse roll" if you have one. hope that helped
it's a start! thanks!
fwwwwwwwwwwwwwwooooooooooooooooooooooooooosh!
yeah thats how junkie xl plays his sets live
fwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwoooooooooooooooosh BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM fwooooooooooooooooooooooooossssssssssshhhhhhhhhhh BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM

The fwooooooooooooooooooosh is most likely a filter sweep, using a lo-pass with high resonance, probably done on an Allen & Heath mixer.
I'm pretty sure you could pull off the buildup with the DJM, by using Echo and switching the "beat" buttons progressively from 4 to 1. It seems to be most commonly done with an EFX-500 or EFX-1000.
Does Junkie XL actually do DJ sets? I thought he just did live PAs.
well it depends, do you consider playing crap off your computer djing?

The filter on the 800 is nice but I still prefer the Xone's filters.

actually some of the more high end newer models allow you to manually patch the signal through...can't come up with an example and looking through the new viruses i cant find one but maybe someone else has an example. cheers
Are you sure ur fwooooooooooosh isn't a long drawn out swish/swoosh sample, with maybe filter/eq added in.

probably the flanger
since the djm-500 came out it's been the most commonly used effect.
