OFFICIAL Rank 1 @ Pawn Shop 9-15-06 Review + Pics

For quite some time I have dreamed of seeing my favorite DJ/Producer Rank 1 in Miami. Last month I talked to Seasunz about possibly setting up a gig and in about a weeks time, with help from Seasunz and Tim of David Lewis Productions and some help from Michelle (sweetcandy girl) from LATA, we had a party set up.

Rank 1, Groove Eric and Seasunz @ Metropolis.

What happened last night wasn't exactly what we had in mind.

Due to circumstances way, WAY beyond me and Seasunz' control (namely Metropolis shutting down), we had to try and find another venue for this highly anticipated party, or end up cancelling it. Seasunz and I spent a great deal on the phone yesterday, answering calls and texts. At virtually the last minute, Seasunz had acquired the Pawn Shop in downtown Miami as our last resort. We accepted it, despite the fact Piet of Rank 1 would only be given two hours to play, and Groove Eric and Seasunz wouldn't be able to play at all.

Even that didn't go through.

Some dipshit child of a man kept pestering Piet during his set in the dj booth, and so we only got a one hour set, but it still owned all of the place and us FLTAs with tunes delivered such as

Life Less Ordinary
Airwave

And a tune which Mel went nuts to. Give us an ID, sis?

To that guy who kept on pestering Piet and had him leave the DJ booth without completing his two hour set, may I offer you a sincere

FUCK YOU, ASSHOLE.

To Piet of Rank 1: Thank you for giving my FLTAs a small taste of what I've experienced seeing you in L.A. twice and Toronto once. Everyone loved your set...I was asking because I wanted everyone to be satisfied. It was an extreme pleasure seeing you and chatting with you again.

To Benno: A very sincere pleasure meeting and chatting with you for the first time ever. I hope to meet you again.

To Seasunz: I want to offer you my thanks for helping me get this gig set up. Hopefully next time there will be less shadyness on certain people's part. You're a great guy, man.

And to Mel, Damon, Groove Eric, Ivan (DJ Relik), Amber (trancebrat), Terry Bones, Carlos (nfkted), Spacemasters, Felipe (LiquidX), Mike (Mr. Jangles), Doug and Maribel (DJ Douglas, trancemonkey10), PaulvanDykism, Steve (Freek096), Rodrigo (elecmfreak), Manny (MJM420), Vic (DigitalPhoenix), Leon (tranceman23), Nelson (DRILLYOU), yogi bear, John Paullino....to everyone, a very sincere THANK YOU for coming out to support this party, despite the massive, unwelcome last-minute changes. I'll never forget it. Pics to come in the next post.

Benno is such a great guy to talk to. Had the pleasure to meet both. WE were there to support and we did. W.e the circumstances that played out during the night... all I can say is that I hope I could've seen more of him

So many negatives on so many levels. The stars and planets were not aligned last night. Yet we were able to suck it up, and made the best out of the situation and had a good time regardless. Hopefully next time things work out much better. Many thanks to Seasunz for all his work in trying to put this together and to all the people who came out to support! Without you guys, there is no party!!! Till the next one.....

I'm glad everyone had a good time. Sorry i couldn't make it. I'm typing this from chicago. Where are the rest of the pics!?

How dare a "International DJ, Producer" take play time away from one of south Floridas long time DJ.

The shame!

I would of have had Alien man escorted out as soon as I saw him huffin and puffin

Someone told me that Mr. Alien Signal looked like he was having a titty-ditty fit in the DJ booth. - WOW -

I hope he has the excuse to say he was on some medication that caused him to act in that manner, and be such a baby. But I am not surprised.

. I brought up this guys integrity up on cooljunkie a while back, everyone of course jumped on the band wagon and started to stay I was hating on a popular radio station and DJ. I knew it was a matter of time before he tripped on his own shit. Oh well, I hope that Rank1 and some type of understandability in this matter and doesnt hold some negative thought about Miami because of Mauricio. I dont care for how many years or if you have the balls to start you a pirate radio station, if you suck; you suck and respect those that do a better job and not over step your boundaries especially an international DJ that has a great rep for this work.

Sad part is that people will keep booking Mauricio because he might do it for free, or give some ad space on his broadcasting but like always its just people using him to make profit.

And Metropolis, I dont even wana get into that topic.

Sucks that things didnt turn out will for you guys, I feel bad for you and Seasons because you guys were pushing that party hard. But this goes to show why Miami has such a weak scene. Between corrupt club owners, and big headed DJs, who would have fun going out with nothing is certain.

But if it makes you feel any better, yesterday was not a good day for anyone. Shit was going wrong all over South Florida, Bad Rain and Lightning strom, your event moved, most of the clubs at the hardrock had no power, people being assholes, traffic and if was fu*ckin muggy out!

peace.

oh,,, the above, IMO

yesterday was somewhat of a pain in the ass and a step in the right direction towards the trance scene strengthening here in Miami. When Tranceman called me up and told me about what had happened, I could say I wasn't that surprised. I had some sort of presentment all along that somehow, this event wouldn't take place. But it did. Thankfully, it did. The ta turnout was great. Great meeting MiamilawDj and the other person was "ledge" something(sorry I forgot!!) The music was for the most part top notch. Ofcourse, Piet only got like 45 minutes, but it was sooo worth it. Trance ownzzzz j0000!!!!! Thank you for playing for us dude. Seasunz, I had thanked you already, but I think I need to do it again. It seems as if you really have a great interest in the edm scene here, and you care about it. DA, i also thank you again bro. As usual, great seeing the usual suspects in the house. Till next time!!!

btw, do we have an explanation as to why Metro closed??? I know they were remodeling or something, but was it really that?

Yes I did see Piet of Rank 1 in San Fran and I had an enjoyable experience. But for him to get mad at something I said in the review thread because I didn't like 1 song that he played. [David Amo & Julio Navas - Electronic Electro]

GET OVER YOURSELF. Not everyone is going to like every single song you play. You aren't number 1 and won't ever get number 1 with that attitude. Tiesto the most hated and trash talked dj doesn't remember people who talk crap about his trainwrecking or playlist.

lol. Was an interesting night must say. But I'm glad I didn't waste money in San Francisco or tonight.

Must've sucked playing 45 mins lol.

There's more shit I can say but I won't ruin this review thread. It's only a 45 min set to review anyways.

Hope everyone else had fun.

BTW this is the post he got mad about.

anyways WWWWWWWWHHHHHHYYYYY did Piet drop that Electro - Electronic song. I loved his set but that song has me traumatized from when Armin dropped it WMC

I enjoyed everyones set.. except for Perry's. But i only flew to San Fran to see the Dj's that were worth the Trip. Signum.. Rank 1.. and of courseeeeeee Blank and Jones!

Wow! That was not the kind of review I wanted to read....
I wanted to read the WOW that was the best night I had in a long time... or that was the best night of my life. I wanted to read wow Rank 1 4 hr set kicked major tunage ass...

Sometimes Shit happens.. sometimes you book a headlining Dj or (dj's) that suck ass and clear the room.. while at the same time the people who let you book the room walk up and see it..

Sometimes you book a dj and they are billed at the compeating club so a week before the event you have to find a replacement when every one was excited to see the other guy.

Sometimes the venue's have issues.. with sound, broken montors, bad mixers, power, or what not.

It does suck when shit happens. but you just have to keep you head high and keep on going! Like you guys did this weekend. I am happy that there was still a lot of TA support despite the move. I am still glad that people had a good time despite all the situations at hand.

The music and being with your friends, and seeing people happy is all that matters at the end. Also Some Rank-1 is better then no Rank- 1 at all!!

I say for promotors out there that want to use Metropolis as a place for events should stay CLEAR! They where haveing a lot of issues during WMC! That place is cursed!

Also for the Radio DJ who whined and bitched and moaned to play should have been kicked out of the venue or at least out of the box. What a BABY!

DA- if this is what you want to do promote and get events going. Do not give up ok! Trust me.. there will be some bad events.. but it is all the amazing ones that happen that cancle all the bad shit out!

even with the drama - i wish would could have been there!

Posted by Allayla on Sep-16-2006 22:34:

sorry to hear about all the drama, and DA hopefully you get to see piet at trance energy if he plays there 45 minutes just isn't enough!!

I have to admit something though... that whole cup throwing incedent is so fucking hilarious

Posted by av1 on Sep-16-2006 23:34:

It really sucks when people come out to see a DJ like Piet/Rank 1 (and they did), he is up there building up a great set dropping major tunes with everyone enjoying the set, and meanwhile some punk local DJ is in his ear/the promoter's ear to let him DJ instead. All so this little kid can get up there and clear the dancefloor like if they were pulling a professional fire drill.

I couldn't believe it when Seasunz told me Rank 1 was only going until 4 or so and why, and all the crap Seasunz was going through from those kids that felt they had to DJ or they would die.

Don't they realize all the crap that happened with the venue and events almost getting cancelled? Don't they realize that Eric and Seasunz were supposed to DJ also but gracefully gave up their slots for the HEADLINER? Don't they realize that no one came out to see the Alien Signal DJs? Don't they realize that if it wasn't for DJs and producers like Rank 1 that came way b4 them there would be no EDM scene left for them?

Those kids had no respect for anything, and I hope everyone takes note of this and never allows them to play at any real clubs/venues here again. Let them stick to their warehouses and shitholes. That is what they deserve. I can only imagine these kids are stupid enough to try and pull something like that @ Space, and LP would probably have them buried on the spot if they did.

DA and Seasunz, your efforts are appreciated. Do not let the problems deter you. Just take a lesson from it: to only deal with venues and DJs that you can trust and that are professional.

Posted by JohnPaullino on Sep-16-2006 23:43:

all this drama is gay, and piet only getting 45 mins doesn't suprise me, those long epic breadowns won't work at pawnshop, and the cup incident was just retarded.

Posted by gehzumteufel on Sep-17-2006 00:15:

OMFG DA! dude i soo cant wait for TONIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FUCK YES BENNO COMES OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by musiqzone on Sep-17-2006 00:26:

DA, I know how much you were looking forward to this and I was so excited for you that you got this all pulled together! I'm sorry to hear things got so screwed up, but, on a brighter side there's a lot to be said in accomplishing getting piet there in the first place right??? you deserved to have a much much better night for all the hard work you put into making this happen. Hopefully it can happen again under much better circumstances and blow everyone's minds away and turnout like it should have this time. at least the 45 mins. - hour set was a good one for everyone... you rock my friend!

Posted by bobba lou on Sep-17-2006 00:31:

sorry to hear it wasnt as good as intended DAA, but you tried.

horrible situation, really.

Posted by trancergry on Sep-17-2006 02:13:

1st off. Many deep repests for everyone who put this together, DA, GrooveEric, Seasunz and any others, that I havent named. It takes alot of balls to pull something like this off, let alone without having your many venue cancel on you like that. Just goes to show you how determined you guys really were and how passonit someone can be about something.

2nd off. I'm not sure what happend about the whole drama thing, because I wasnt there. I really would have loved to be there, but I couldnt make it down . But I know that DA,Seasunz and GrooveEirc have learned alot from this, and the next time, it will go off without a hitch.

and great pics man!

Rasta S**T Happens....

Well, yea i was disappointed just like many about the way things went down....but these things do happen from time to time. I just feel bad for those who worked so hard to book RANK 1 in the first place. First time in Miami and this is what happened. Thanks for the hard work and stress of actually finding him a venue at the last minute. 1 hr is better than nothing.

Pawn Shop on Fridays is HOUSE. That is it. The crowd that came--came for HOUSE. I'm not surprised it cleared out---but COME ON!! It's like mustard gas went off or something. I don't just up and leave the minute something different than usual comes on! I thought RANK 1 was great for the time he actually spun---but a DJ cannot take you on that magical musical journey in 45 minutes!!! I hope he actually is back again.....and does not take this as a cue to never return.

I ended up at Nocturnal for after hours---my first Friday afterhours....and it did not disappoint. ROLAND really rocks that place. had a fantastic time. Like it up there much better than Space patio. That salvaged the night really.

also, it was great meeting some of the TA'S....and melly mel, i guess that cup incident went down after i left??? hmmmm....i left and you were talking to him. But---we don't need to go there anymore. everything's been said. HOpe to see you all out again sometime!!!!

Posted by iclone on Sep-17-2006 14:43:

still wish i could've made this one.

glad the gig went on due to your perseverence and love for the music.
