Review (pics and vids): Kid Koala + Ninjatune @ Piknic Electronik 17-09-06

Can't sleep and no class tomorrow soo... REVIEW FOR YOU!

WOW! What an insane party. For all of you who don't like hip hop, it's a shame, because this label and the DJs who spun that evening were absolutely amazing. Ninjatune is a fucking quality label and every single artist who I saw play there from the beatboxer to Kid Koala absolutely RIPPED it up. This was a fucking GREAT party in every respect. Great tunes, Great vibe, great people, nice weather, nice girls, good friends-

GHISLAIN POIRIER
GHOST BEARD
KID KOALA
LUV

Ghislain's set was pretty cool, some nice house jams and some recognized more hip hop stuff, but a lot of crazier stuff as well, got everyone in the mood, but was definetely the "poppiest" set of the evening for sure- but it warmed things up and got the party started for sure. He played outer space - prodigy, and that got me stoked as usual.

Ghost Beard, who is apparently the Ninjatune label manager for Montreal fucking DESTROYED. He played a fairly long set and all the mixing was incredibly smooth. He didnt do any scratching, but his mxing skills were on par with any sort of house/techno/trance dj. Smooth party set with some crazy ass fucking tunes I would have never have imagined. He bult a fucking CRAZY vibe for the main event.

Koala! Started off with a HOT crowd, brought the NOISE! He played all sorts of stuff, but barely any of it has rapping- lots of samples and a couple "known" beats were dropped (a kanye and others) but few rapping tunes, mainly just AWARD TOUR see vid - He did some crazy strange ambient stuff, like literally ambient to a HUGE crowd- takes balls and skills. He had both up there for sure. He played this monster frank sinatra esque ode to montreal from wayyy back, which got everyone swaying and everyones hands in the air, he rocked it from the moment he got on, and all the screens showing him do his thing were really cool- so basically we danced like FUCK all day!

5/5
