Arrow Why are so many trance songs sung by a female voice?

I bet you've never thought about this.
Is it because we think by hearing female voices we're thinking ofkindness, emotion and stuf? By male voices we think of roughness. That's why you hear only female voices in uplifting songs, and male voices in hardstyle songs.

um... yes

Posted by Cosmic on Mar-13-2002 18:36:

Don't you know what I mean?
All the uplifting trance songs have female vocals (Jan Johnson, Sara McLachan, Such is life etc). And NOT male vocals (apart from Shane, but that's an exception)

there are many reasons

I think its due to that there is more male Trance listeners out there, dont get me wrong theres fucking loads of women too, but on the whole , men listen to trance and listenning to a female vocal creates a sexual sound to the song.

Another reason is due to that some of the origanl artists of the old skool / hardcore / era etc use to have lots and lots of female vocals , therefore trance has evolved into an upperclass sound which provides a female vocal.

there are many reasons out there. but who really cares ????

You've got a good point there Rozzer, a sexual sound... You go through to the next round

Not quite true. Example of female vocals in hard style song: Marco V - G.O.D.D., soft male vocals: James Holden - I have put out the light
But I do agree that the main reason female vocals are used is that most producers are male. It just sounds more soothing to use a female singer.

like stated above, not really relevant as long as i get my rapture.

Wow, you must listen to a lot of uplifting trance songs with female vocals to make that generalization. I listen to tons of uplifting trance songs, they're one of my favorite types of trance songs, and the majority of them do not have female vocals, let alone vocals.

frankly i think its cause guys sound stupid when trying to be all heartfelt, in a trancey sort of way. the only trance with dudes i like is Maxi Jazz stuff. Faithless is the shit. its not really uplifting tho...so i dunno/

lol i agree with you dude. just listen to Jaimy & Kenny D - Caught Me Running (Tiesto Summerbreeze Mix) and then listen to Delerium - Heaven's Earth (Matt Darey Mix) right after and it will all make sense why guys shouldnt sing in trance songs!

Posted by whiskers on Mar-13-2002 23:36:

i think that most guys are not capable of hitting that high pitching note, which makes the tune uplifting.

i just think that a female's voice is much more emotional than a males.. or just much better sounding..

Because the female vocals are gentle, smooth, stylish, and sexy.

Posted by locutox on Mar-14-2002 01:40:

Yeah female vocals are a lot more suited to trance music. This is probably because female vocals are much smoother (and nice, cause i'm male ) Imagine 4 Strings - Into the Night with a singer like Ricky Martin

Female voices are more euphoric and emotional and adds so much more to a song, I think.

male singing in trance...i don't think so, doesn't do it for me

Posted by davinox on Mar-14-2002 03:05:

well....

Cellmates - Died in your Arms (Promo Remix)

that doesn't count does it?

Just doesn't work..

Bingo, we have a winner. Exactly, make voices in trance just can't convey the emotion a female voice does. Imagine this in a male voice "Sugar, you make my soul complete, your rapture tastes to sweet." Sounds like a transvestite trying to get layed. Male voices in trance just sound cheesy. Any more wine with that?
