Chicane and ambient trance

I've just come across an instrumental by Chicane on a Ministry of Sound Summer Mix - called "Halcyon" (original mix).

I suppose it is ambient trance - when I listen to it, all I can think of is being at this dance party on a secluded beach in Thailand...watching the sunset. Corny, I know...but I like it.

Does anyone recommend any other ambient trance songs?

cheers!

I don't know much ambient trance but Jean Michelle Jarre is pretty good, especially with "Oxygene" and "Equinoxe".

He does have some ambient-trance and breakbeat stuff but I wouldn't call "Halcyon" ambient. I mean he does have ambient tracks, and ambient music has influenced trance, esp Jean Michel Jarre (though he's been known to make some more upbeat and dancey music as well) like PvDAngel mentioned. If you really want to get into some more ambient stuff that is trance-like, i'de look into Ulrich Schnauss, or Enigma's new CD "A Posteriori". They aren't "trance" per say but they sure are trancy..hypnotic and melodic.

And there's plenty of spacey and melodic progressive house and trance out there that is a lil more closer to a classic Chicane type sound....check out various tracks by Snake Sedrick, Jay Lumen, Benz & MD, Retroid, Alucard, Leama & Moor, Kalafut & Fygle, Mark Otten, Solar Stone, some by Jonas Steur, DJ Fire, Stroyteller, Hydroid, Joni Ljungqvist, various stuff by Steve Helstrip and a bunch more. You might like them, you might not, but these are close, maybe some more so than others.

You're probably looking for stuff like this:

Solar Stone - Seven Cities (Atlantis Mix)
Solar Stone - Solarcoaster
Nalin & Kane - Beachball (Original Club Mix)
Salt Tank - Eugina (Michael Woods Remix)
Solid Sessions - Janeiro (Armin Dub)
Chicane - Saltwater
Chicane - The Drive Home
Accadia - Into The Dawn (Accadia Club Mix)

Lost Language used to release such stuff before they went shit.
I wouldnt call it ambient trance, more like.. balearic trance. I still listen to it occasionally.

Yeah Beleraic Trance...awesome stuff. He also might like stuff by Airwave, as he's been noted to do either some really hard edged stuff, or some really melodic and some more ambient or downtempo tracks, esp on his new CD. You might like "Summer Turnaround", "Ladyblue (1992 Flight Mix)", "When Things Go Wrong", "Seattle Calling", "Venus Of My Dreams", "Angelic", "Sky Blues", "People Just Don't Care", "Symphony Beneath A Summerstorm" and a bunch of others from him. He has a tendency to make emotional melodic trance music similar to Chicane, though sometimes a little darker. I think what your really looking for is not the really fast 136 BPM + stuff but the stuff around 130 - 135 BPM, as most of Chicane's stuff was that wasn't ambient.

A good resource for Ibiza style music is the Cafe Del Mar series of compilations. Not all of it is Balaeric Trance, but the style is fairly well represented there, plus you get a lot of variation in terms of genres, so your playlists aren't straight up thump thump trance music.

Yep, Caf Del Mar is more than a decade old compilation series of lounge, ambient and other balearic vibe tracks, compiled by Jos Padilla. Well at least he used to compile them and started the series and is still a resident on Ibiza. I'm not sure but i think some of the latest volumes aren't by him anymore.

Accadia - Into The Dawn (Accadia Club Mix) Inspiring tune!

Also check out Mark Isham. One of my favorite tunes by him is 'No such thing as monsters'. Great stuff!
