Official CARL COX REVIEW!!!!!!

ok so its ummm prbably like 6 am right now im not really sure but after having a banging night dowstairs at the bar with danny torrence for the dirty pre party for cox i slowly made my way up to the main room, and alll i have to say IS AWEEEEEEE!!!!!!. for someone that really does not like techno at all, seeing this man do his thing made me appreciate it a hell of lot, absolutely FUCKING slammingggggg!!!!!. ripper after ripper after ripper the man was on fire, i dont think i have ever danced so much to a techno dj ever.... super content with the night the sound was flawless and COX made it that much better as well. its great to see stereo booking such diverse styles of EDM this was a wicked night and im sure its probably still going on and the Whole TA crew is going at it while im writing this mediocre review. ERICA, NICK , HAKIM, SelMA, ALICKSSSS :P, i expect to see all your reviews about the night after i bounced.

maherkd

see you all on the 27th

oh.my.fucking.god.

What an epic night!!!!

I was expecting more housey commercial stuff to be honest. From the moment we got there the music was awesome. Techno sounds so damn good on that system.

When Carl came on around 230, he unleashed a non-stop techno beatdown. Rolling, chuggy basslines everywhere.

This was one of those special nights where everything was perfect & beyond expecations.

I really like how this was a Thursday jam. The place was full, but certainly not packed. Better still, everyone was an enthusiast, everyone was there because it was Carl and not because it's Saturday @ Stereo (which I relly like too btw). The crowd was totally up for it and there were about 150 people there when we left at 715.

Highlight of the night was XL dropping Chemical Brothers - Under The Influence. I can die a happy man having heard that tune on a mighty system like Stereo's. I heard the little openning sample and it stopped me dead in my tracks. Fucking Awesome.

Now, for a nice lazy day of playing records and avoiding my cell phone when work calls.

Paul

No shit. Fuck afterhours on Thursdays, seriously.

Posted by pmoisse on Sep-29-2006 15:11:

some say fuck afterhours on a thursday, I just said fuck work.

The thursday night guarantees that it's a room full of enthusiasts who are there for a reason. I have nothing agains random clubgoers who just like to party. The industry needs them. But, they have their regular days.

Something like last night was a treat that gets shared with those who already knew that the night was going to be good. The enthusiasts got the treat that they wouldn't have gotten on a more commercial Saturday night (just my opinion...a guesss...).

Call the music whatever you will. It's old style, big room party tunes (BUT NOT TRANCE, dear god not trance). It had hints of hard house, techno, trance... hell, there was even some circuit feel to some of the tracks. But, last night everything was blended seamlessly into a monster track that was slightly less than 3 hours, because the whole thing sounded so damned seamless.

It was constant, rolling, heavy yet not too hard & stompy (ie:cold German/Rotterdam styles)

Afterhours during the week should be reserved for Ibiza only.

Posted by Maher Daniel on Sep-29-2006 16:26:

its defenetly harder on the weekdays i must agree but as promiss said it really is for the enthusiasts, those who appreciate the music and ontop the amount of people is probably perfect in numbers enough space to move not to packed just right and everyone going full throatle.

Posted by all-nite-freak on Sep-29-2006 16:46:

job & life>dj

whoever doesnt agree is one of those wing nuts who just stands there staring at the dj thinking hes making music

Posted by Marcus007 on Sep-29-2006 16:52:

I agree with you pmoisse. I was worried he was gonna play house so I stayed in but now that you tell me he was playing rolling techno I'm regretting...

+juan....

So dissapointed he actually played techno....I'd have loved to have been there. Class this morning was booooooring. I should've skipped for Carl.

amazing

Apart from a little set-back right I had at the beginning of the night, everything else was flawless. Carl Cox is one of those DJs not to be missed when he's in your town. His set overall had a techy feel to it but it wasn't pure techno he was spinning from 2:30-6:00, tech-house in the beginning going through progressive, acid and yes even some trancey elements, maybe a good 45 minutes of techno that reminded me of Preach A LOT and finally all ending up in hard hard tribal house...it was magnificent.
He played a SICK remix of that commercial song 'Feel da beat...', but the remix was SICK. I was dancing through-out the whole night just making brakes to go outside to smoke (fucking rain didn't help and having 20 people with umbrellas all dripping on everyone creating more rain didn't help either...but that's so minor at a night like this).
There was ONE idiot on the dancefloor that somehow always seemed to be around us when we were there and he didn't even dance...he was so drugged that he was just standing there, sponteously braking into a jump-around(where he would push and bump into you) and then all over again.
Hi to all the TAs that rocked it at the party:
Stereohead
Enigmatik
aria_clubber and his friend Paul
MaherD
licks
Hemmy
shawn_05
elie
pmoisse

Was nice seeing Louis near the beginning of the night.
The crowd and vibe was great, pmoisse said it best, they were there for Carl Cox not because it was a weekend and they needed to escape..thursdays works out great in my opinion but fridays are still probably the best. Lots of girls, not too many gays, and the music was Un-fuckin'-belieavable!!

Classic Moment: "Are you all ready to get sorely fucked tonight?" (Carl Cox on the mic)

So happy I went, Carl Cox is definately on that list of DJs never to miss.

MT

PS: WHERE THE FUCK WAS NINJA I HAVE NO IDEA BUT NO-ONE SAW HIM AS FASR I AS KNOW!!!!!!!!!!!! you have a lot explaining to do...

(((Stereo and Cox. lmao!!)))

Wholy shit what a night, musically Mitsutranza put it best, but still you had to bee there to feel that beat. Those kinda nights are my favorite when enthusiasts are out, and they were defiantly all out in full force with nothing but good vibes to relay to others, thanks all for the great night we all helped bring together under the lead of non other than Mr. Cox who definitely did as he said he would, get [us] sorely fucked tonight. Man oh man what a night, it defiantly reminded me of Preach at some points, I dont compare djs but he was peachish just harder meaner and darker, better, but then again we have never heard him, preach at Stereo. Whoever mentioned it was absolutely right tech sounded so fucking good on Stereos system, I love how each component of the speakers is individual and, with the raging high hat clashes and clicks those floating tweeters made for a nice effect, as always, but there was something else about the sounds coming out of them that night, I cant even describe it leave it to your imagination. Anyways not the greatest review but enough has been said, and best put by pmoisse, Epic night.

Once again great to see the usual TAs bouncin around the floor, and meeting many more peoples. Hope all had a great rest of the day. Kamaka was great talking to you about ur project and interests musically.

I know stereohead and all would agree, its night like those when i rerealize how much i fucking love stereo. And the weekend has just begun. See yas at Vibe. Oh man haha

Peace, Licks

:P

Ok I got to Stereo at 2am, was on the floor by 2:20am, the Cox came on at 2:30am. The music was fantastic, killer set...a night that goes down in Stereo's history FOR SURE. He had Ableton going, live keyboard, 2 CDJs and 2 turntables...quite impressive.

OMFG I FKN LOOOOOOOOOOOVE the renovations at Stereo ...Now, you can see directly into the booth, the only thing separating you is a glass window (kinda like Aria's but at Stereo, it's on the side). And that extra chilling room located (facing the DJ booth from the dancefloor) on your left hand side is HIGHLY appreciated on my part to take my phonecalls

What else can I say?
HIIIIIIIIIIII!!!! to all my usual TA freaks ...and all the usual Stereoheads I ALWAYS, without fail, see on that magical floor since the 1st time I stepped onto it.

The Cox is a BEAST. That's the only word I can think of that describes him. Perfectly. He swings from side to side behind the decks and at one point, he made a "come hither" hand signal to the crowd and said "Come on! Give it to me!!!" I was like, FUCK YES! LOL!

OMG I almost forgot! I got to meet him YAY! I could listen to him talk forEVER; I love English accents. When he shook my hand, his hand covered mine plus a part of my wrist hehehe...

Respect to HakiSaki65 for the Cox mixing on HIS, yes, HIS mixer ...and for getting him to sign it AGAIN, after the rebos at MOOG cleaned it off while cleaning the mixer. MAJOR

I left at 6:15am, was asleep by 7am and woke up at 2pm, studied, chilled with Alex and slept again

Great night! VERRRRRRRRRRY happy I finally decided to come (thanks Haki, I love you )

See you at Vibe/Grondin ce soir au {{{Stereo}}}...Just the bestest place in the whole wide world...

His fkn mouth mon dieu!!! It just wouldn't stop moving, fkd on 345671 speeds. Sooooooooooo scary to see some1 that fucked. Personally, he killed my vibe for a bit cuz he always managed to fkn touch me somehow and when I gave him a dirty look, he just looked even more fkd and danced away, then came back, and repeat...fkn asshole...learn to HANDLE YOUR SHIT!!!
