Access Virus TI Desktop
Other than the obvious lack of keys, is there any difference between the other Virus TI models and the desktop one?
Is it programmed the same? I'm assuming it can produce sounds identically, correct?
Everything I read on the website indicates such, but I just want to check with the experts...
I'm really considering getting it....... I will need a few drinks before I talk with the wife though
Perhaps I'm being stupid. I only do this stuff as a hobby. Thoughts/opinions? What about an older Virus B or C?
Edit: Well, I decided to not spend that much money right now....I didn't have the balls to ask the wife - I knew better
Perhaps I'll do it next year some time. I was able to talk her in to letting me spend the money for Spectrasonic's Atmosphere and Stylus RMX tomorrow. I think the two ought to be quite good in my arsenal.
Atmosphere and Stylus are great! You will be glad you purchased them. Also look into Trilogy, there are some nice sounds in there too. Good luck with your productions!
You look a bit young to be married in that avatar
I own a Virus TI and I think the diff between the Desktop and keyboard is the keys, pitchwheel and mod wheel.
You are not stupid because you make music for a hobby. I do at the moment as I am nowhere near pro level. That takes time and practice my friend.
Atmos is great for pads and Stylus I found great more for house based productions. What type of music do you want to produce? Trance or House?
Good luck with any future productions and post back

Thanks for the replies guys! Its appreciated!
The kid in the pic is my son at about 18 months or so
He just turned two in July.
Anyway, I got Stylus RMX and Atmosphere yesterday at a local store - Guitar Center. I'm pretty awed at their quality and power!!! I feel a bit like a cheat with Stylus, but give me a few days, and I'm sure I'll get over that
Regarding the question about the genre I want to produce, I don't want to nail that in any one particular genre. Right now, Trance is my thing as I've been listening to it and Techno since the 80s. Electronica style of music has a special place in the heart. I would like to venture off into some ambient or some cool progressive soundscapes as well. The sky's the limit I guess.
I played with a Korg Radias at the Guitar Center yesterday. I really wasn't that impressed with it, but then again, it's one of those synths you probably need to spend weeks with. I only spent about 20 min
Take care!
What Guitar Center did you go to? I live really close to the one in Arlington Texas.

If you really like music, trust me you wont regret it. I have a virus C and its really a nice tool to mess around and make massive sounds, as well as weird effects and wahtever you want. Unless youre really restricted on the budget, this will be a big present for yourself you WILL appreciate.
You won't regret the purchase at all, since even if you don't make a dime off your music you'll get thousands of hours of fun out of it. It really is an amazing synth, I fucking love it.
And as for the original question, yes the only difference between the keyboard and polar models is the keys + modwheel. It's the exact same synth under the hood.
Thanks everyone! I think Atmosphere and Stylus RMX will hold me over for now - especially financially
I think waiting for the TI sometime in the future when it drops in price is probably the best idea... Thanks!
Atmosphere is wicked mate. You can use it for pretty much every non-percussive element of your track. Nothing beats the filters on the virus though. I think the best thing about Atmosphere though is its ease of use. A nice one to start with.
