A couple of questions

As a vinyl-newbie, I have a couple of questions for the more experienced of you...

How good are the Stanton 500AL2 for cuing / basic scratching? I decided not to spend the extra money on more expensive cartridges, and now I find that the needle skips a little too much. When rewinding the record (even when not touching the actual record), the needle seems to shake a lot, and sometimes skips. This is not a big problem, and normal cueing works okay most of the time, but will upgrading to, say, good Ortofons be worth the extra money? Or should I stick to the 500's and improve my vinyl-touching skills?

Also, one of my records I got in the mail was made so that it has to be jumped on to fit on the turntable spindle. Hade any of you had this problem, and/or know how to widen the center hole without ruining the record? I would really like to be able to spin "Five Yards" without having to wrestle with the turntable.

Thanks!

I've had this problem too; I think the only way would be the try and enlarge the hole to fit the record into the spindle. Don't warp the whole thing in the process of doing so, though.

Oh yeah, regarding the Stanton carts, I have them too. It's alright for vinyl-reading, but I wouldn't recommend scratching (even mildly) on them.
