Official Montreal Canadiens 2006-2007 Season thread

figured we would need a thread like this!

And to start things off:

RIBEIRO IS GONE!!! WOOHOO!

Posted by ChemEnhanced on Sep-30-2006 22:48:

Good luck Montreal

you will need it

I kid I kid

ribeiro traded to Dallas for Janne Niinimaa.

http://www.rds.ca/canadien/chroniques/214102.html

comes as a shock to me, but it was just a matter of time. We had been talking about Ribeiro being traded for the entire season last year and it finally happened.

That's siiiiiiiick! Ninimaa is just what we need...now we won't have to play shitty Patrick Traverse.

I think basically, we need to get more goals in the net than the other teams. I think this strategy will lead us to victory!

I was at bell Center tonight, and i liked what i saw. Plekanec played whit Samsonov and Kovalev. Latendresse on the 4th line whit Murray and Begin. The first line produce a few points, 2 goals for Kovalev and 1 assist. Mike Johnson is better than i thought, really impress by his work, i think he's a good thing for the club. Let see what happen whit our goal tender. Now whit Niinimaa, the team is better i think. So have a good season, first game friday october 6th at Buffulo!!

+1

really looking forward to see Niinimaa play. He had severe ankle injury last year.
if he's half as good as back in the day with Edmonton we're in business.

Posted by Bertuzz on Oct-01-2006 14:28:

niinimaa had a off year last year.
but in seasons before that he was a very offensive defenceman, so I think it's just what we need!

Let's just hope Saku doesn't get injured, then we're in trouble at center big time!

i am amazed that gainey was able to get more than some coupons from pizza hut for ribeiro.Good stuff.A small player with no heart who cant skate is useless. The only reason he played here was because he is french.(the habs "need" to have francophone players is why they will never win the cup again.Fuck you Bertrand Raymond)

Dallas has Ribeiro in thier mind for quite some time.

He's a good center and in good company, he'll get 60+ points this season!

Ha! 1rst post in a trance forum and I talk about Hockey...

lol
noob.

calling ribeiro a good center is like saying micheal jordan was an amazing baseball player....il patine comme une vache espagnol.

Posted by Zeidoo on Oct-01-2006 21:24:

Une vache espagnole, elle est pas mal celle la. Le probleme, c'est qu'une vache espagnole patine mieux que bien du monde si elle joue dans la LNH.

A+ amigo

ribeiro could barely speak english OR french.
maybe he should have stuck to Portugese

there's no Buona Notte in Dallas...wonder what he'll do with himself now...

Posted by Zinger on Oct-02-2006 02:14:

hahahaah buona notte

jokes

we dont need heartless players like ribeiro...

i have a feeling the kovalev - plekanec - samsonov line is gonna be insane.

kovalev will hit 35 goals if he doesnt get injured

koivu will have a big year....75 points

latendresse = 17 goals

aebischer will get traded after the all star break

Couldn't agree more.

Though, I haven't heard one person's reaction to the trade that was negative; "ohhhh noooo I'll miss Ribeiro...". Every single person is THRILLED he's gone, when we pretty much are getting damaged goods in return.

but in any case, GOOD RIDDANCE MICKEY RIBS!

I hope so. I heard during the last preseason game, they were on fire.
Let's hope it continues

Posted by dj ugo on Oct-02-2006 05:55:

La vitesse sur patin importe peu quand on a les mains agiles. Regardez Kovalev, malgr son potentiel de rapidit, il ne force jamais son coup de patin, il est tres calme avec la rondelle. Ribeiro essayait un peu ce meme style de jeu, mais avec moins de talents, ce qui fait de lui un joueur lent, et surtout non motiv.

I'm pretty stoked for our season. I don't think we'll have any problems in the goaltending dept; even if Huet proves to be a 1-season-wonder, Aebischer is more than ready to be a solid #1.

How many teams has Niinimaa played for now?

Posted by Spin Laden on Oct-02-2006 15:33:

the days of players sticking with one team has been done for a long time.Niinimaa is the type of player this team needed at this time.

oui...free agency, salary cap, and parity.

Well, we'll see about him. Usually when a player starts to get bounced around like that, and esp someone with Niinimaa's skills, it means he's becoming expendable, even in today's "market". Hopefully the Habs don't have to claw their way to 7-8th place again. Toronto have improved their back end too, Tampa and Atlanta's gonna be competitive and Boston may have improved a bit too.
