well, i agree with the article that it is kinda b.s. but, this is one of the best musical marketing ploys i have heard of. it resulted in over 100 different remixes with royalties being paid to xpress 2 (as i understand). on top of this, they get publicity. i can't blame them at all

Ummmmm....everyone needs to go out to Dave's myspace site before you say something ugly about this competition.

I actually like his remix a little bit. I also hate Dave.

I heard they received some flack on it. I just remixed it because I liked the vocal...I didn't care to join the competition.

I hate shamelessly promoting anything I do and the BEAT Tour was the last exception.

The funny part is on djforums.com I know I've seen at least one or two people with Xpress 2 - Kill 100 (insert random remix) listed as their favorite track.

Thanks for sharing, the post was intended to make you think about the competition.

Dave's mix is very well done, congrats jotetz.

I think the author is trying to point out that each remixer deserves more recognition, more economic benefit than those arranged on the competition. In my opinion, the author is trying to blame x-press-2 for trying to use other people's creativy to their own benefit.

I think x-press-2 is giving opportunities that other producers and bands should consider; It's a good way to open doors for other bedroom musicians aswell...

I don't agree with half of the article, just thought it would be fun to hear your thoughts...

I agree with everything you said. I think I just wanted to throw the warning out there before anyone started berating those that participated in it and not knowing a fellow TXTA'er produced his own remix.

I like the idea of opportunities like this if it's done for the right reason. If the artist does it more for their gain that than for the benefit of the undiscovered, I think that's a shit-can move and they should have a finger removed with a dull knife for doing so.

Im pretty sure you didn't make the remix for the actual competition.
It's a good remix and i found it dj-friendly too...

I think self promotion is a double edged sword, you need to know when to do it, how to do it and how not to look like an ass. A day on myspace music will def give you a better understanding of "what NOT to do" .

Anyways, if you want to get your music accross you should go out there and hand out your cds, let people know you and support the local scene.

Definitely some good points made. The competition was a good and bad thing. For some, its a free distribution release if your track is good enough and to others it could be seen as a robbery of their creativity. I know Nick Galea remixed the track as well...wonder what that one sounds like.

Thanks for the compliments and for having my back guys. I got some good feedback on how I can improve the mixdown so I'll be doing that today or tomorrow.

i think your remix is really good. you should submit it if its not too late.

Posted by davemolina on Oct-04-2006 16:50:

I thought I would be tempted to submit it, so I waited till the day after the deadline to start it. Its my first production attempt ever, so I thought it was best not to submit it.

A nice cha cha beat would have been nice. But I guess you don't have any talent
