Avalon.. Will it ever be like the days of old?

Ive been to every club worth mentioning in LA.

Ive seen a lot of great trance dj's play and rip it up.

But i cannot stand spundae's anymore. Sound is aweful and its too lit up. Not into vanguard at all.

I love avalon. Some of my best club nights ive experienced were at avalon and ive been wanting to go back and have a blast, but its just non stop house music there now. I fall asleep listening to techno or house, i needs me some trance. So i am super disapointed in avalons list of performers. Even the shining light Matt Darey canceled his performance just recently there!

So i ask.. Will it ever be like the days of old? When you'd park your car at the parking next to avalon, and the bass is so loud the ground trembles as you walk up to the bouncer. Nowadays, its nothing like how it was. Bring back the badass avalon!

Sorry, just venting. Havent been clubbing in a LONG time, and trance is a big part of my life, so obviously theres a need that needs to be filled that hasnt been, and it sucks.

And I love house, so my need is filled! The sound is still fantastic, the lighting is some of the best around - if they'd just clean up those washers...

i agree about the washers. it has gotten really bad there. i have to keep going back though because of the talent and the sound.

Its too bad cause it could be a really cool spot.

avalon can choose to be whatever it wants to be, including a club with an attractive, engaging crowd. it is what it is today because of the way it's managed.

beggin your pardon but I think you don't know any of us to make that comment.

We have a whole new management team that is taking strides to take into consideration complaints and issues regarding the club.

At least from the Wired Team we are all about the music cuz take it from me the money is not all that.

We sacrifice alot in our personal lives to make shit happen. Some comments here are being made by people who arent old enough to be at avalon to begin with.

arent old enough but get in anways. i like the look of avalon but many things about it just piss me (and others) off.

Avalon needs to take control of the LA club scene again. Its the best club in LA hands down, just has the worst music playing in all of LA. Make it happen man, work your magic, get avalon back on the map!

Thats great for wired, but people can still have a different opinion...and apparantly alot of them do.

I love when people forget that their opinions are just that.. opinions. I personally think trance blows ass, but i don't rip a trance venue, or a person's taste because their choice in music. I think avalon plays great music. Which is why I tolerate some of the things I do (4am sloppy hookers anyone?) to go there for the greater benefit.. the music

avalon has some great headliners sometimes, but their opening/closing djs--most that i've heard, but not all--are a complete JOKE. the most wretched mixing and programming i've ever heard in my life came out of avalon, i was literally getting mad having to listen to it. also the line management is possibly the worst i've ever had to experience. and still no one can figure out why, other than it helps pad the wallets of the bouncers. there's already 2 categories where avalon rates the worst in my clubbing experience. the 3rd category is the crowd... the most ugly, cracked out, standoffish motherfvckers i've ever been around. probably half of the crowd isn't even in the mental state to interact or communicate with other people. and it isn't hard to see why if you look around. tooting and popping left and right. none of these are exaggerations, this is my honest opinion and experience with the club. avalon employees can read it and do whatever they want with the information though i doubt i've said anything they aren't already aware of.

word to the bird

I think Avalon is simply badass. been there only 2 times. one for roger sanchez until 7am (great crowd), and another with Yoji Biomehika until 4am (weird crowd). the line-up coming up for avalon is so sick, i mean eric morillo and carl cox in 2 nights in a row. richie hawtin and jeff mills in one night. excited to see pete tong.
the experience i've had at avalon and the nights to come will be nothing short of fucking great. cheers.

This is tranceaddict.com, not houseaddict.com. So the preference for most people here is trance. I didnt go searching on google for a jungle based forum and find tranceaddict.

So again, those of us who were at Avalons hay days with the top trance scene going at the time are insanely let down by what it has become. Get over it. Of course everyone has opinions, just like everyone has a right to be disapointed. Glad you are happy with what avalon has become, but i am not.

It really sucks that now i have to travel just to see a good trance show. Seriously sucks.

My problem with Avalon is the sound. I have heard discussion about how they supposedly brought in some great sound system, but it sounds distorted and muddy to me. As far as sound systems go, I much prefer Circus.

Ive never heard a sound system as devistatingly awesome as Avalons in my entire clubbing career. However, i must add that ive heard its not as finely tuned as it used to be because they're playing house and it doesnt require as good of a calibration as trance.

arent they tearing down avalon to build condos?

I did. Crobar in miami puts Avalon's sound system to shame.

Any club with an expertly tuned Funktion One puts any club to shame. All the best clubs in Ibiza have a Funktion One and it's fucking spectacular. The bass hits really clean (hardly any reverb) and the mids and highs don't get drowned out by bass. It's fantastic.

Anyway, personally, I don't understand what everyone's problem with Avalon is. I've never had any issues with security at Avalon, and I have a feeling that people that do have issues are bringing it on themselves. Same with the line, never had any problems. Shit last night I was standing in the wrong guestlist line (my fault though, didn't realize the Honey lounge had it's own entrance) and the guy STILL let me in FOR FREE. Why? Because I kept my cool, treated him with respect, made some small talk, and remembered some little fact he told me a few months ago (something about being an actor). All I did was ask how his acting was going and if he had any projets lined up. The whole convo took 5 mins and he gave me 3 tickets lol.
