well...i been here for months now...registered last yr though...lol...but i've realized sumpin...
...i fully believe in the fact that everyone should be able to have a voice here...but i keep seein topics about DJs that, accordin to the topic starter, sux or is over-rated...i'ma make this clear...i am not a DJ...but i know that DJin and producin is very very difficult...every DJ has his/her bad nights...some things may not be up to par...but hey...doesnt mean they suck...i hate seein topics about Paul Oakenfold and how much he sux...well shiet...i see the same people postin topics about his Southern Sun song...and they love it...whats up with that?...a yr or two ago...people still praised this man as a god..what happened?...so hes not as great now...he was the man pushin trance and made it what it is 2day...dont forget that!!!...same with PvD...maybe he did lose some steam...but hey...he blew everyone away in 2000 and 2oo1...well...IMO...he still is...trust me...he'll come back and u'll all fall off your seats and be all like...WOW!!!...same goes with DJ Tiesto...so hes made a couple of lukewarm remixes?...damn...everyone seemed to have forgotten his remix of Silence and whatnot...
...so please just do me a favor...dont start crappin all over producers and DJs...they up there for a reason...
i kno i'ma get alot of beef from people...but i think it needed to be said...

I don't think much if it is intended to be taken literally. If I say a DJ/Producer is shit, it doesn't mean I don't think he has any mixing or production skills etc....just that compared to other DJ/Producers that I like, he's not up to much.
e.g. Jules. I often say how I think he's crap but that doesn't mean I think I could mix better than him. I once said a tune made me come in my pants but needless to say, there wasn't a sticky load in the washing machine the next day.
I think the main problems are
a) People take things too seriously. Too many times you see somebody say somebody elses favorite DJ is crap and they go off on one big time....
b) People not respecting others opinions. If somebody says they don't like a certain DJ they're immediatly labeled by that DJ's fans as trying to be cool by dissing him, or that if they had a better understanding of music then they would appreciate him more....

i say everything sucks, so don't pay attention to me. I did not get the nickname the critic by accident. Oakenfold was the man in 1999, so he has a place in tta's top dj box with an asterisk that says old fave.

Hehe I can really see this evolve into a flame session ... oh well.
First:
DJing is not very difficult. Anybody with some musical talent and some time on their hands can learn to spin records quite well within six months. There is a small army of DJs who aren't well known and who don't demand superstar treatment and exorbitant fees just to stand behind the decks for two hours and play cheesy tunes from three years ago. There is a great number of talented producers who bring out amazing tunes yet aren't getting signed onto labels. Then you have "superstar" DJs who perform night after night in front of paying audience and they deliver below average performances. Please explain me why should the partypeople continue to accept that?
Second:
Everybody has a right to diss the performer. Freedom of speech. I agree that if you just say that such-and-such DJ sucks, nobody will take you seriously and you will seem like a juvenile 12 year old kid who is trying to act all tough hiding behind the screen. On the other hand, there is much constructive criticism on this topic, which should be embraced and encouraged. Why not criticise a DJ who just played a horrible set? If you are getting paid thousands of dollars to play records then there should be no excuse for poor performance. Something that always bothers me is when people say that "yeah, he just had a bad night ... he's only human ... " and such. Emptying a dancefloor is something that should NOT happen to DJs of that caliber, regardless how off they might be at a particular party.
Well ... to avoid any further ramblings ... it appears that many a DJ right now is enjoying a fame trip based on performances many years ago. People are just too blinded by all the CD releases and remixes that they fail to realise the lack of quality and passion in their performances.

wellll i wouldnt say oakie SUCKS now, a lot of perfecto releases now SURE DO blow, suck, lick arse...
we haven't heard much of oakie in the last half year aside from his EM, so can't really say much.
unless you saw him recently and expected to hear full on trance, and he gave you breaks.. heh.. but then i dont even think its that bad, just not the 99 oakie.
but there CANT be a '99' ANYONE, cuz trance isnt the same as back then!
i mean cmon, everyone was playing amazing tunes like transa - supernova and tekara - breathe in you, even nick warren! and now nick warren is almost exclusively house-to-proggyness.
so ysee, everyone changes over time. i dont mind the breaks from oakie, its a decent change of pace..
Hey, the way i see it, this is an open forum where people are welcome to their own opinions. Yea, of course your gonna hear stuff you dont wanna hear sometimes, but thats how life goes. Like the others said, dont take it to heart and juss enjoy it as humor or whatever way you can.
I've had some heated arguments about this dj and that dj, but at the end its all outta love for trance. We all come on this website cuz we all have one thing in common, love for trance.

Their might be some oakie that I don't like, but I do like most of it. Give the man some credit, he's experimented with a bunch of different styles. Some of its bound to be good, some of its bound to suck. But for the most part, its pretty damn good.

and im not gonna sit here and say Shmoakenfold sux ass, but his most recent productions have all been pretty much dropp'n out from his nasty piece of ass...
Hey and if Oakie lovers like it, thats cool with me. I respect peepo and their preference in music, but they swear bullet in the gun and piledriver are the greatest tracks to ever be dropped on a set of decks... which imo is pretty funny.

FIRSTLY this is a forum. We're supposed to be able to bring up debateable points and debate! If that means slagging certain DJs and producers off, so be it. Often, to emphasise a point, i'm sure certain things are exagerated. So be it.
SECONDLY i'm certain I couldn't DJ aswell as the deejays who are slated on this forum but let it be known that I wouldn't be paid the vast sums of money paid to these people for an hour or two of work.
Trance DJs should all be respected for 1. their devotion to the genre and 2. their desire to constantly improve themselves for the sake of music. I think they should all be accessed unbiasly.
I used to adore Oakie; I thought he was God. I still listen to his '99 Essential Mixes because they're THAT good. And I agree with most of you here in saying that he's gone downhill since then. But that's a very bad excuse for saying he sucks; people are not even giving him respect for his efforts! I thought Southern Son was amazing.
Same for Tiesto; people start to say that his mixing is crap recently and his new prog style is disgusting, but people forget to pay his respect for his efforts. I think some of his remixes are brilliant, but there have been some which I did not really like. Novertheless, I'll say to him "I don't really like this prog shit, but thanks for the effort".
See, the point is, they're all working so so hard for the love of the music that we ALL love (if not we won't be in here), so instead of isolating them when something goes wrong, we should admit that something did go wrong but hang on and anticipate a better mix or a better production from that same guy. If fortunes do change, then give him credit for that. I know some of you will say things like they're so highly paid they're expected to come up with great productions, remixes etc etc, but don't forget that at the end of the day they're musicians- not music-churning robots. Musicians are like mathematicians; you can only watch them from a distance and hope their eccentricities produce a stroke of genious one day.
In 1979 there was the car the Pinto and it was cool when it first came out...people liked it..now its GARBAGE

If someone does not like a a certain DJ and wants to say so then thats his or choice...you can either argue aginst his or her opinion or stay out of the thread...very simple...
I LOVE Ferraris...but that doesnt mean i have to like them all...i think some are cool and some are junk....its all a matter of opinion like in trance....
