REVIEW: Oakenfold + Kenneth Thomas @ Dragonfly

hmmm how to explain. I wasn't planning on going to this, then milos got me into going. Thanks milos.

Got there at 10:30ish, had to go thru a small lineup (longer than usual) and through a thorough search by the bouncers....they seem to do that hardcore on big names. This time it was worse than a tiesto!

Then I got to the pay booth and my friend was working, so I got lucky and got a free pass!! way to start the nite!

Kenneth started out hard and stayed hard till the end. What a pleasant surprise. I danced up a storm to his music. So good! He was smiling and having a good time, interacting with the crowd. Some of the tracks kenneth played could easily be put in Digweed's sets, thats how good some of this selected tracks were...

Then i think around 12:30ish, Oakie came on and started harder than Kenneth. I had very low expectations coming into this nite from the comments on past performances....well i have to say thank for setting my expectations low.....cuz he blew me away and made me even happier.

Oakie played till 3ish and kenneth came back on till 4. Again he was non-stop good stuff. His beats slowed down around 3:30 but still very good.

The crowd was the best i have seen at dragonfly yet. Everyone was dancing, and at moments jumping crazy. The ladies were gorgeous to.

The sound wasnt too lound like past times ive been on wednesday, it was just perfect IMO.

I think overall this was my best experience at Dragonfly and Ive been to Tiesto, Glaude, digweed and some Top40 nites at dragon.

Thanks milos for making me come out. Cant wait to see your pics and videos.

If oakie and kenneth play like they did last nite at GUV this wkend. I highly recommend pple to check em out!!!

Got home at 5am, fixed up some problems for work and hit bed at 5:30 to come back in to work at 9.....rough day so far.....but it was SOOOOOOOOOOO worth it...

now today i feel ive been on rollercoasters all day yesterday, my body is still moving like music was playing! fun fun

Good to hear Oakie played well.
As for the atmosphere at Dragonfly, I've yet to hear of a night when it wasn't incredible.

Big Ears

Yeah I agree with you guys, best night at dragonfly yet. Everything was perfect; crowd, sound, and the tracks. I was expecting some trance from oakie, boy was I wrong. I dont think I stopped moving until 330. Track of the night for me was Royksopp - What Else is There (Trentemoller remix)

i was expecting trance too, i was pleased to get something harder...some parts were house'ish

overall the tracks were great. Loved the songs that had a huge peak and everyone was jumping and hands in the hair.

Freakin awsome evening. It wasn't packed like armin was, freakin great tunes, good vibe, a good amount of dancing room, good lookin ladies...

Great night over all. Def. the best night I've had at the Dragonfly ever.

Great over all night!

I was a little unimpressed with Oakenfold he started nice and dark with a good vibe but lost me bout 45 minutes in. Highlights of his set were "what else is there" and the "lethal industry" mash up, that was amazing.

Kenneth Thomas was amazing loved every bit of both his opening and closing sets. Track of the night was definatly his last one, and when we asked what it was called he said he just finished making it 5 days ago, just crazy.

Dragonfly has never let me down, my favorite club out there for sure!

You're absolutely right... I forgot the "Leafs suck!" part.

Just kidding man, until they play against each other that is

I am so glad Oakie didn't let yas down....he is making a strong comeback....he is getting harder and harder and I love it.....maybe some of these other big names will get the hint....the harder the better....piss me off that I am not going to be at Guv 10 year.

fucking funny
i think you could get all the fun you need for one night by just watching him "do his thing". the look on his face when he turns up the volume on the next track and looks at the crowd for a reaction. the thing he always does where hes holding onto the mixer and moving front to back. or the little keychain flashlight he had and was using to give ppl by the booth a lightshow. or his hair. or the way he....illustrates the music with his hands, lol.

but maybe i just found it all so comical cause i was wasted. idonno
in any case, still got mad respect for the guy and the TUNES (far from trance) he was playin last nite were good. as were the residents. deep progressive basslines mmmm

Posted by eisbaer6 on Oct-05-2006 22:47:

so what did he play if it wasnt trance then for the most part?
