I finaly jumped the Live bandwagon

Logic + live 6 = heaven.

Hammer out beats melodies variations basslines etc then mix in logic, though i still prefer recording my guitar and bass in logic. But for any aspiring pruducer I would deffinately recommend Live as a starting point, im sure if you started in Live you would learn how to overcome some of its limitations. But being a logic user for 5 years now, its kinda hard to drop it.

Live is a GREAT sequencer. I use it for all that jazz.

Yeah, I use Live for pretty much everything these days.

Couldnt agree more! So easy to learn and work with. Verry straight forward! Never used any other though , but it has never crossed my mind to use any other. Just love it!

Being i still have a lot of hardware synths I still enjoy logics midi facilities. Not to mention the grooves dna thing.

But coming soon is logic 8 its been a awfally long time since there was a significant version update for logic and I would be surprized if they dotn try and incorporate something similar to live. I mean the already have to some extent with appleloops.

live is indeed a great toy and utility to create wild stuff. But I have to say that the sequencing isn't anything for me at all. Compared to cubase & logics timelines it's a mess to edit things fast and easy imo.

Default- it seems to make the most sense to my brain.

Ya know what sucks, a majorty of them you cant say where the track marker is while a clip is playing its like a black line on a black waveform. Really annoying..

Posted by kitphillips on Oct-06-2006 09:47:

Just out of curiousity, what do people mean when they talk about live's limitations? I'm not trying to start a sequencer war, I'm actually genuinely interested, I always thought they were talking about signal routing, like you have two sends and thats it, no more mix subgroups, but I found that you actually could have mix sub busses... so... Is it just the lack of optimization for large sessions we don't like (no track folders, gui stuff etc) or am I missing something?

Sorry, but i have to disagree. I think that the Live interface is built to edit things in a fast, easy and clean way, thats what makes it so good. Also working with auto. and loops is quick and easy!

A toy? yes, in that matter that it makes music creation more fun!

Live has 4 sends...

Uhmm no, i had up to 7 sends in one production in live!

Posted by G-Con on Oct-06-2006 14:57:

How did you manage that. I've got live 5 full version but can only create a total of 4 return tracks. How did you get 7?

Posted by fr0st on Oct-06-2006 15:23:

Well one of the gripes like i said live has no where near the midi functionality of logic. Also project management is a bit wierd.

good thread frost. I tried it out and its pretty good.

you can actually have as many sends as you want. just keep adding send channels...

and yeah i agree ableton is pretty awesome and functional. been playing with for a while now and it's pretty sweet...

first of all toy might have been a wrong word to use, I referr to cubase, logic and all other programs as toys simply because they are fun to play with so it was nothing negative.

About the sequencing, I supposes it's just a matter of me already knowing my ways around cubase 100%

I chucked Logic 2 years ago and now all I use is Live. I've never been friends with Cubase, Live suits me down to the ground, I love it.

are they? guess i've never really needed that many hehe

Posted by farris on Oct-07-2006 05:41:

That's more than enough indeed

Posted by kitphillips on Oct-07-2006 07:24:

Lol well there goes the last problem I could think of in live... I personally like the project management, I can see where some people might like to have more advanced features like being able to hide certain types of tracks and track folders etc... Still its a solid environment.
I can't see whats wrong with the midi implementation sorry but then again, I come from pro tools!
