OPRAH bashes Rave Scene!!!!

Today i was watching the Tv and channel 10 rerunned that OPRAH show again about raves and "wide spread" ecstacy use in such parties. It did annoy me to a certain level cuz it was one sided! There was some truth in it but wasn't really reflecting entire truth! as usual the whole thing dramatized and "ruined kids" and their parents explained how bad is the situation and so on!
Our music beign demonized as a stimulant to use drugs or vice versa. I was wondering what everybody else thinks about that?

Have you noticed how they never get the ravers on there commenting?

It's always "concerned parents and officials" talking shit about a subject they would have no idea about. How many raves do you reckon these people have been to? Wouldn't it be a better idea to get some ravers on there explaining how much fun it is, and how safe the environment is compared to pubs and clubs (with all the alcohol fuelled violence etc)? Have you noticed any ravers come on and say "yeah, it's just too dangerous going to raves at the moment. Far too many drugs. I'm very concerned for my well-being"? If the ravers aren't concerned - and it's not like someone trippin on e is likely to start any violence or anything - what right does Oprah have to say what's right and wrong? How many fucking raves has she been to that makes her such an expert?

Bah.

Bloody idiots, the lot of em.

Maybe if she was young and good looking i might respect her. But shes not! Shes a fat piece of ugly nosejob shit. And she seriously has no idea. She gets people to come on her show to talk about how they save 5c a week by splitting up their 2 ply toilet paper to make it go furthur.

Anyway...i dont think that trance is a stimulant for using drugs at all. How many of us just love sitting at home at nights drug free and listening to trance eh?? It's all bout the music i say.

Oprah needs to focus more on her weight and less on other peoples problems...i mean seriously if someone cant even MAINTAIN "chunky" then they should not jump on others...she is a pig

Im sure many more ppl (including underage kids) die in the pub/bar scene - or for that matter at unsupervised house parties* (which parents often allow kids to have) every year than in the rave scene.

*Starting to sound like a dickhead- I don't mind unsupervised parties it's a valuable part of every childhood, Im just trying to make a point - that the way people portray the rave scene is entirely unrealistic and there are other pastimes that have been around for much longer and are in fact statistically more dangerous.

fuk i'm sick of hearing stuff like that, if they made their reports more informative instead of completely negative maybe young people would learn something

surely they know that telling a teenager NOT to do something will usually make the urge to do it stronger... any parent that thinks their children will never try drugs is in denial

i think there's only been 1 or 2 deaths in australia from ecstasy use, and i'm sure that was either from lack of water (or too much) or taking a bunk pill

the chances of either happening would be lowered if people were educated on this sort of thing.. you'll never be able to stop people taking it, so why not teach them about it?

but with things like pillreport.com people can play it safer without having to trust what they friends cousins friend said about the pill... of course there will always be the stupid people that don't really give a shit and will drop anything, and they can go for it, they're not endangering anyone but themselves (not like drink driving)

although there was a report on ketmine on today the other night, it was quite well done, i don't recall any 'experts' talking shit on there, just ravers who used to take special k... after seeing that i definately won't be trying it !

Lets face it... drug use isnt a particularly well accepted practice in our society, its pretty much standard, at least publically to condemn the use of drugs - could u imagine the outcry if OPRAH was to air an UNBIASED, TRUTHFUL and BALANCED show on ecstacy and its effects??

thankfully not everyone walks around with the wool over their eyes - the internet is a wonderful thing... bluelight, pillreports, erowid... all great resources helping people make decisions based on balanced information, not one sided propoganda vomit.

thats it im writing the pig bag an email

my email to oprah

hi, im just writing u in concern to the episode u did on the rave scene.. and i believe it was highly unaccurate, how ever i do agree that alot of drugs do go on at a rave however, people dont only go for that, i have been attending them for a while now and not once have i ever taken anything relative to what u covered in ur show, if anything alcohol at a nightclub is more likly to result in a fight and concerns alot more people then afew people dancing to the music they love, and in no way does the music involve such stimulant to cause people do take drugs as u so put it. Drugs are a large problem in todays society however u shouldn't emphasize that its mainly converned to the rave scene

thankyou Tas

lets see what she responds

Confused

has anyone ever gave thought to why oprah is so popular? (to americans that is) it's rather stupid but amusing thought.

Well esentially she's just gone and appealed to the typical majority of americans ie. the usual white picket fence middle class americans that are always in her audiences gazing at her with adoration. THe stupid part is she's managed to appeal to them by basically relating to them all as a whole and has made herself filthy rich off that. Her shows are fillled with teh same old boring material with just differnt people. bleh:P

Hey Tas,

Read This!

hey kids,

raves are awesome. the scene is amazing... and the drugs make it different. oh yeah i love them... but there are problems with these drugs.

i see many many people whose lives are essentially debunked from normality through the (not always inappropriate) use of drugs. these are people who cannot socialize, cannot form relationships, cannot work, who have no ability to interpret reality, who cannot live. the use of drugs is more than half the reason for this.

yes you may say that they were going to have a hard time anyway but if you add to this the use of illicit drugs then you have a potent combination for achieving a very early end to life.

drugs for me at these parties are an easy way to enjoy life. in fact i would say they help me (without being neccessary) appreciate life in its fathomless beauty.

my message is care with their use. dont become a victim. it happens not to a few but to many. use them with the awareness that psychiatric hospitals and wards are full of people who abuse these drugs. many not through their own choice. often the drugs have removed the ability to make a choice. be aware that the dangers with their use are not insignificant and that most do not (can not) consider the risks.

you dont need drugs... for a high. music is more than enough. (ie technically you have these drugs in your head already and by using music you can get your natural high with out the risk of artifiially fucking your very delicate and essential organ - your brain).

take care and safe harmonising with others where people congregate for various reasons (including music and people).

c u there, jc

cant stand that show,, always these stuipd topics with thoes gay ass Dr's doing" Im so weak so come and pay me out some more so i can feel better and cry" and for her to even comment on the rave scene when she has no idea about it... 60 minutes did a doco a few years back on the rave scene when one girl died,,best doco as they got both sides of the story, i recall that the mother was not even pissed off as her daugther knew the risks involved etc... its your life and you make the choice ,, i just dont agree with peer group pressure.. ive never taken E and dont plan too either,, the music is enough of a drug for me...

tony walker fields of joy !!!!!!! ahhhhhhhhhhhhh blisss
