REVIEW: Lee Burridge @ Footwork (Oct-7-2006)
I'm a bit (a lot) trashed right now, but whatever:
Lee fuckin' rocked...too bad we left shortly after 4...but prob a very good idea if I'm going to my parents tomorrow for diner.
no line to get in, $15...totally worth it.
Until shortly before last call, only a part of the crowd seemed to be into it at all...but when it cleared out a bit...SICK f'n beats and the crowd was finally more than just people talking over drinks.
Yet another DJ whose style isn't readily classifiable (at least not to me)...house-ish, some eletro, prog...whatevever it was exactly what I was looking for tonight.
After going there for the first time last week for Holden...and now for Burridge...I can safely say (*maybe* with the exeption of breaks in the Orange Room), Footwork is the shit for certain types of genres...downtempo, breaks, prog, etc.
Cribby, good to see you again dude...I dunno where that energy comes from, but you were still rippin' it up out there when I left...nice!
Guv 10 year tomorrow...time for bed.
if anyone would like to, burridge is playing at C0ZO right now....carlo lio and barrato gave up their 6-12 slots for burridge to play.
PS. review to come on monday
fuck the zone

lee was awesome! could only make it till 3:15 but what i heard was excellent and so typically burridge. and he played "peace division - tribal phunk" which made me oh so very happy.
AND that's the only track i recognized.
they changed stuff around at footwork since the last time i was there, but i think it's probably my fave venue in toronto at the moment.
now: turkey time!
ps. so glad we convinced to you to come out, fran! hope you had fun at sonic.

Yea I saw Lee while waiting in line at the Zone. I know Lee played for fact, but unfortunately I never got the chance to see him. The bouncer at the door decided to only let people in who were crowding the front and slipping him 20's...while the people waiting in line were held in the same spot for about an hour. I got fed up and left around 7.10. Wasn't any closer to the door and from the looks of it wasn't going to get in until about 8 anyways (if I was lucky).
So yea...I'm fucking pissed about that since this was always my dream party
Review of Footwork will come later, after I give it the chance to sink in a little bit. Music-wise though, this was easy one of the best parties I've ever been too.

Absolutely sick set from Burridge! The first 2 hours of his set may be the best few hours of music I have heard at a club all year. He remains at the top of my list for his hybrid style of gritty, funky and dirty minimal proggy electro tech house. The only thing predictable about Lee is the fact that he never disappoints. The crowd at Footwork always makes me smile... No posing, no pretension... just friendly old System faces who are there for the dark tunes and nothing more.
Osbourne, although I have never really been too impressed by what I have seen from him, played an amazing opening set for Lee.
Headed to C&C after this party but the tunes came no where near as good as what Burridge had delivered at Footwor so I was a bit bored. There were pockets of some funkier stuff but mostly long over drawn tribal flat tunes with some large predictable vocal tracks that you could have set a timer too.
Wish I had not left Footwork before I knew about the Zone as I would have much preferred that after party over the Sonic one. Will have to just hope Burridge returns and finds his way back there.
