Need advice on mixer

OK. So I just bought me some cdj800mk2's and am looking to upgrade my mixer too. I have a djm300 which works just fine. But I am looking to get something that is four channel and has more functionality. I am a pioneer snob and would want to stay with that. I don't want to pay the money for the 3000 but want to get one that I will be happy with.

Who has pioneer products? Tell me your thoughts on what you have and what you would get to compliment the 800's.

Call me later man. I may be willing to sell you my DJM-600. I have one coming from Allen & Heath for the club.

Allen & Heath Xone:62
or if you have the money, Xone:92

and then buy an EFX-1000 for effects if you want them.

why the fuck would anyone be a pioneer snob when A&H makes better mixers?

Allen & Heath are kind enough to send me Xone 92 mixers for my events. I think the 92 is one of the best mixers on the planet. When James brought in the DJM800 for the 1st time in the states a while back in Austin. I loved it. It is very functional. It sounds way better than the older pioneer mixers. I like the eqs a little better on the 800. I like the way the 92 sounds. Funtionality is key for some people.

Just like the quality of their products.

Jonas, how much do you plan on traveling to shows with it is another question?

Cross that road when I get there.....

Before the DJM 1000 and 800, the quality of pioneer mixers was really nothing to write home about. Also, the 800 is pretty expensive so I would reconsider being a pioneer snob if you don't have money growing on trees! Check out the Ecler Nuo line, and Allen & Heath consoles if you want a good sounding mixer for maybe a bit less than a DJM 800.

While I prefer Allen & Heath over Pioneer, I baffles me how people continually say this when Pioneer is pretty much neck and neck in the number of club installs around the world with Allen & Heath. The DJM-600 & the XONE:92 are the industry standards.

That being said, the Elcer Nuo 4 or 5 are some I was going to recommend for a four channel as well. They also have the Nuo 3, which is what I was getting at when I asked how much you plan on traveling with it. If you are not going to be carting it with you & just plan on using the venue's gear, I just don't see the advantage of dropping $1500 on the DJM-800 simply because you aren't tapping into a club sound system. You won't hear the sound difference that people talk about in the new Pioneer.

Go with the DJM-400, Allen & Heath XONE:32, or the Elcer Nuo 3. The 400 is only a 2 channel, but gives you the same Pioneer quality & only lacks the extra 2 channels & MIDI mapping, and the XONE:32 & Nuo 3 are three channels to give you the extra if you are looking to hook up an 8-track, err I mean vinyl deck.... Either way, all three will give you a good mixer to pair up at home with your studio sound system & the CDJ-800's.

I really need the extra channels for the best part of my set...

Ballpark-How much are the A&H and Ecler? And it's Ecler, Matt, not Elcer. Hukt awn fawnix wurkt fer mee.

I like the Allen and Heath Xone 92 over any mixer. It's on my "wishlist" for christmas. The Pioneer djm 800 is great, the EQ is solid, works very different from the Xone 92 (the filters are also very useful). Soundwise I would def go with the Allen and Heath, mind you that it all depends on how you use each mixer. For some, the pioneer djm 800 works better and for other people it's not as great as using an A&H.

Posted by Slow Motion on Oct-09-2006 20:39:

I've not heard any reviews on the Nuo mixers.

John and Sasha use the Xone 92 (control mixers)
James Zabiela uses the DJM800 (function mixer)
(big difference in funtionality)

The DJM800 is Pioneer's answer to the Xone92. The Xone has 4 EQs. Which can make mixing smoother. The 92 sounds better. The 800 has only 3 EQs, however, it offers more functions than the 92. I do wish A&H EQ knobs were the same size and weight as the 800.

Both are very good. It depends on use. For club mixing, I like 800, for home mixing I like the 92. I own neither. I have a Vestax
VMC-004 and a CDJ1000 MKIII at home and record my mixes live or in Live, so it is a waste for me to drop $$$ on any mixer for home use.

Good luck

Lance

Posted by progressiveMOJO on Oct-09-2006 20:50:

as usual I couldn't have put it better than Lance just did.

The Allen & Heath mixers are "control" mixers, the Pioneer mixers are "function" mixers.

I personally favor control over function, and clean sound over just about anything else, so I'd take an A&H over anything else, no questions. If I want effects, I'll map out the MIDI on the Xone:92 to Live or get a separate effects processor.

It's also just personal bias but I've never liked the actual feel of Pioneer mixers. The radio station here at Stanford has DJM-600 and I just can't get used to the size of the knobs, layout, etc. compared to my A&H.

The 800 is completely different than the 600. The design and function is better. Basically, Pioneer stepped up to the plate. Have you played on a 800 yet?

def a great mixer

word the 600 and the 800 are on totally different levels. The 600 feels like a toy but the 800 is truly a professional piece of equipment. Don't compare them

I think the only FX an DJ should ever need are some awesome filters. What I need is an A&H CTRL 92.
