CDJ dilemma

I'm looking for some advice/recommendations for my friends purchase of some cdj's. I'll be learning on these too, that's why I thought i'd come to the forums for the proper insight:

2 new Pioneer 800 MK2's - $1100
or
2 used but well kept Denon S5000's -$850

what sounds like the better deal to you?
he's already purchased an efx500 and is in market for a nice mixer too. Thanks!

Pioneers all the way. Pioneer CDJs are the industry standard, and you can pretty much find them at any club. Denons on the other hand.... wait, I've never seen a denon CDJ at a club, I've only seen their dual decks.

even though the functionality might be better on the Denon's?
Thanks Woody.

I have one of each that i mix on at my place. The djm series of cd tables are the industry standard, so familiarity with the club equipment will be a given. However, as far as technical specs go, the denon DNS3000 and 5000 have a higher accuracy % then the djm's do. ALl this really means is that when you cue the song it is initially more accurate to the beat and will stay tighter to the beat with less adjustments.

I think the denon is a better player all around. It's built better than the 800's and has a ton more features (looping, sampling, multiple loops). I personally think they are confusing on the denon though and will def require a look at the owners manual more than likely.

Just my .02, but both are good players. I think it's good to play on different types of equipment because you never know what you could run into at the club.

can't lose with pioneers, but just love our denons dn-s3500. yay to pitch buttons! the dn-s5000 has belt drives, while the dn-s3500 have direct drives, so im not sure if that's really worth it. maybe mixing with one CD would be nice though, since the dn-s5000 is the one with that nifty feature!
