I'm surprised at how clean everything is. I thought it would like like a shithole

In communist Korea the country cleans itself.

How sad.

pyonyang is their 'paradise city'. it's the only city tourists are allowed to wander and everything is kept immaculate to provide the image of prosperity and order. it also helps that their roads and many of their hotels are completely unused. the rest of the country is pretty much farming villages. here's a hotel they never completed, which has remained abandoned since 1992...

some of that stuff makes me sad, i cant imagine how bad it is there

the same thing happened with germany. it wasnt too exagerated though because things would be smuggled in and out and people would be very rebellious and listen to western radio and watch western tv so this kept the gap relatively small. it was still quite large though. it took 10yrs to get a vw bug in east germany. yes thats right TEN! there were a lot of people that were useless in the workforce because they had no usable skills in the western workforce except unskilled labor. the kids were the only ones with a chance.

thats some crazy stuff. i feel bad for those people. i bet it would be pretty interesting visiting that place.
my grandparents spent some time in russia when it was communist. they said life is soooo much differnt in a nation like that.

I deleted the post because I didn't think anyone saw it yet. Here is the article.

http://www.latimes.com/news/printed...ack=1&cset=true

what I said in the post before was.

quote:

It's worse in Russia. I just read an article about the town where everybody is dying and born with birth defects because of the factory.

There are no tree's on the hillside because of the toxins and there is not enough money for healthcare and no running water.

Let me try to find that.

Posted by gehzumteufel on Oct-11-2006 21:27:

ninja edit: just read the article. its basically saying that russia isnt worse than north korea its saying that russias population is fucked because they have shitty medical care.
