The Mormon religion...

Not knowing much of anything about the Mormons, I tripped across this...

Just how accurate is this?

...and I thought Scientology was weird....well it is, but still....

Oh, and those that want to spout that religion-is-the-opium-of-the-masses bit, just bite your lip kthx...

As for that video, that's just a whole new level of crazy - I'm not even sure how you could begin to rationally defend that?

Cant see the video on this computer (and my laptops are inaccesable at the moment), but everthing i know about mormons i learned from south park They do occasionaly drop by our house to leave their propaganda leaflets however i use them to light up the fireplace during the winter

Mormon seems a lil' strange to me. You have to give 10% of your annual salary to be in a religion? Their 'book' is filled with huge parts from the Bible, especially Isaiah.

Christianity says the same thing about the 10% issue. It's called tithing, but apparently isn't as "required" as it is for the Mormons. I know people from my parents Protestant church that tithe (and look down on those that don't ).

From what I've heard that video portrays the "old" Mormonism. I guess modern Mormonism doesn't have nearly as much of the mythology involved, but does have some (e.g. you need to have lots of kids to put all the lost souls in).

Still pretty entertaining and pretty scary...all at the same time.

oh common weiner, we could benefit more from you actually telling us some info, like from your own experience, after all religions are mostly a subjective experience anyways

I know a kid that used to be mormon, he could recite bits of the bible off by heart. Eventually he decided h didn't want to be mormon and his parents kicked him out of the house. He told me about the mormon beliefs and that vid from memory is a pretty accurate depiction of Mormon early history. The South Park episode has a pretty accurate depiction of it too and a fairly even-handed approach to it I think.:

At the end of the day, yes it does have a wacky history and some crazy beliefs about what happened both in ancient times and quite recently that are entirely unsubstantiated by history - but who cares. Most people don't seem to question their beliefs regardless of religion anyway, and as far as religions go at least they seem to have good family values and don't actively hate anyone.
