OTTAWA (Reuters) - Canadian troops fighting Taliban militants in Afghanistan have stumbled across an unexpected and potent enemy -- almost impenetrable forests of 10-feet (three metre) high marijuana plants.

General Rick Hillier, chief of the Canadian defence staff, said on Thursday that Taliban fighters were using the forests as cover. In response, the crew of at least one armored car had camouflaged their vehicle with marijuana.

"The challenge is that marijuana plants absorb energy, heat very readily. It's very difficult to penetrate with thermal devices ... and as a result you really have to be careful that the Taliban don't dodge in and out of those marijuana forests," he said in a speech in Ottawa.

"We tried burning them with white phosphorous -- it didn't work. We tried burning them with diesel -- it didn't work. The plants are so full of water right now ... that we simply couldn't burn them," he said.

Even successful incineration had its drawbacks.

"A couple of brown plants on the edges of some of those (forests) did catch on fire. But a section of soldiers that was downwind from that had some ill effects and decided that was probably not the right course of action," Hiller said dryly.

One soldier told him later: "Sir, three years ago before I joined the army, I never thought I'd say 'That damn marijuana'."

sorry that I used the subject that the Taliban loves pot, I did not know you were offended by the subject. Johnny Taliban is this You??

And Josh does not have to demand anything, he would be a good sport and PM me, like he always does whenever we post the same subjects, I gather he is a FARK HEAD like myself, so pull that bug that has crawled up your butt, and stop acting like the Subject Line Gestapo of TA.

I thought it was implied with "loves Pot"? Perhaps it is another type of love?

I was just wondering, no need for sarcasm.

The comment about josh was just a joke. I remembered he did it once or twice before and thought he would do it with this thread since he made one in the Chill Out Room. Thought he was headed this way.

Afghan weed/hash is the best.. very strong. I had it loaded in hukka.. when one afghan guy made it for me in one house 'terrace' party I went to.. it was awesome, flat hell stoned after 2 puffs or something..

I strongly reccoment Afghan pot.

You see Laz, this brings me to explain yet another example of misrepresentation in the West. All this time we were being told they planned to detonate "dirty bombs" in American cities, and spread mass panic, another lie. Do you honestly believe the Taliban want to be bitch-slapped by frantic Americans running around after a dirty bomb explodes somewhere? What do you think all those feilds of ganga are for? The Taliban are working really hard on a "dirty bongs," so we're so fucked up and chilled out, that we won't be able to offer any resistance, their ultimate secret weapon.

nah, not that much.. prolly good weed is the only thing we both appreciate..

From what I heard is that afghans have been growing poppy for so long now, that their land are all barren now.. pretty much infertile to grow anything else now..

Unless they discover some oil feilds or gold mine, the economic development in that country is prety much hopeless (or they stick to poppy cultivation).
