Where are some nice Portuguese and Italians neighbourhoods in the GTA?
Would cabbagetown be considered a great example of these?
neither historically or currently.
Italians live generally in north or the city, in large groups at least. Vaughan, Woodbridge and Maple are newer developments of Italians whereas College St. and St. Clair ave are long standing sections of the city that genrally have large amount of both groups.
You find pockets of Italians in Scarborough but the further east you go there aren't as many in large sections.
West of the city, some people call Stouville; Joeville for its high amounts of Southern Europeans. But for the most part Northwest of Toronto is a highly concentrated area.
