Buying Speakers
On my list of pieces to buy to complete my dj gear, I need to buy some speakers. I have a pioneer djm-500 and am a little unsure what type of speakers I need to buy and if I need an amp or anything for them to work. I have read before the differance between power/non-powered speakers - but I am not quite sure about the technical side of what goes with what. Any help would be appreciated (even if it just a link to another thread that has the answer).
Are you looking for monitor or a pa system.
I would recommend Active speakers (self powered) this way they have the perfect amp, so you don't have to try and find a good one, plus any decent active speaker will have a safety setting so you can't blow the speakers or damage them, now depending on how much you want to spend, and if your looking for studio speakers or big bastards, with the studio speakers there more to sound quality, and the big bastards are...well loud, but the quality won't be as good as the studio speakers, unless you wanna spend big bucks, so give us a price and what type of speaker your looking for and we can help you further.
I'm picking up 2 Mackie SRM-450s tomorrow, w00t, these are suppose to be loudspeakers with similar sound quality to studio monitors.

Did those 8 inch babies have enough bass for the party? I am thinking a couple of 6 inch monitors with a monitor sub, or maybe 8s without sub like you have are perfect for both personal use and small parties.
And yeah the 2 SRM450 would be great, good for for bigger events, I had them in my house and it was LOUD and clean too. If I got them I would be tempted to add the 1501 sub but it's really too much, and a lot bigger and heavier than the studio monitors. But perfect if you sometimes need to take them to clubs or places that need that PA volume.

Really it depends on what you are going to use your speakers for. If you know your goin to be moving your speakers around alot, goin to gigs and such, you would be better off going with the self powered speakers. Self powered speakers have the amps attached to them. This way you dont have to lug around a seprate case for your amps.
What size of speakers are you looking to get? Are you looking at studio monitors or speakers designed for a small venues/crowds?
