[Trance] Aigis - Second Order

Hey everyone, got another four-on-the-floor track to share with you all. It's a bit different from most trance but I think it still fits into that category.

A very small few of you might recognize some of the melodies from one of my really early tracks which hasn't seen the light of day in a very long time. At that time I thought it had potential but, well, I sucked, so I shelved it and made a mental note to give it another shot once I had a clue or two. About a week ago I decided it was time for "take 2", so here's the result.

As always, comments are welcome and appreciated. I also know that the mixing is not perfect, but I think that further tinkering on my part is just going to do more harm than good. So screw it, here it is!

Wow, not only have you made something labeled trance, but labeled only trance as well.

Ok, the melody stuff the beginning sounds like something from a TV series or something.
very unnecessary as well if I might add.

I recognize alot of the sounds here like the bass, effects and stuff.

The distorted guitar is nice, the lead coming at 3:13 is cool.

Very much stuff going on at one time here, but it sounds pretty nice.. loads of variations and stuff. although i prefer things a little more repetetive.

Overall cool track, and you definitely like to try new sounds and approaches.

But this doesnt sound much like trance if you ask me, more like house/breakish stuff.. reminds me a little of productions from David West.

Bass is right out of Trilogy, I make no excuses nor apologies for that. As for the effects, most of them I made or mangled beyond recognition so not sure where you've heard those...

And you're right, as I said it's definitely not a typical sound for trance, although I think it's a closer fit than house or breaks. I don't think I've ever heard any of David West's work so I'm not sure whether that's good or bad.

melody is really good in the intro, just not a fan of the synth.
I think the track kicks in to fast, theres no build to it.

Hey man this piece is really cool.. particularly the fx you've done in it.. really drives the track along heaps.

wasnt too much of a fan at the break section.. but the intro and little buildups were great

Brilliant stuff, mate This even exceeds Breaking Up The Wrong Tree, which I didn't think was possible. I can see the resemblance to David West, but your track is better than some of his best works I reckon. Great track!!

When that first melody began, I was like "Wow, I really like that." It comes in about 2/5ths of the way in. I'm simply amazed because most people don't even make a song with a good melody, and you did!

What I think this song needs is a feeling of progression. One of the characteristics of trance is that you either get the feeling that the song is building energy or downplaying energy, or it's just trying to trick you out.

During the beginning of the first breakdown, you don't give much warning to it except a very small whoosh(what is this called?). If you made the transition a little more grand(bigger and longer whooshes) and lengthed out, it would improve the song.

*Sigh* I feel like I'm trying to correct a house song into a trance song. Is this really a house song?

I picked that xylophone sound because of how it fit into the mix, although Mr. Rogers, you are probably right, it's a pretty bland sound and perhaps during that initial intro I should have used a different sound, even if I stuck with the same one later in the mix.

Good comments in the other posts, thanks for taking the time to listen and critique, I appreciate it.

i have not indulged in one of your tracks before...

listening. - the sound is well mixed. very clean and balanced. i miss a harder kick maybe.

bass synth is indeed very generic ... hehe. i think a less preset one would improve the track so much.

i like the panning and efx.

this is great man. very experimental. reminds me a little of a demo track to show what a piece of equipment can do... in a good way. - prob because of the variation and all the interesting sounds and that bass sound!

the track is very glittery and fresh - hopefully i can get this clarity some day!

Thanks for the review Rich. Demo track, heh, I can see what you mean, there are a lot of different sounds. For better or for worse, I never like to sit on the same theme for too long!

Just awesome dude, absolutely wicked track. It's really one step above.
Nothing much else to add, it's perfect the way it is and I really enjoyed listening! Love the guitar in it too.
Ah no actually I have got something bad to say I didn't like the cheap as fuck xylophone at the start. I guess you could say it adds to the amusement value of the song.

I enjoyed the song. very different, very psytrance if you ask me for the genre tho. Maybe it�s too much for my ears, I am not use to too much variables and changes on one song but this is something common on this type of music. very experimental too, I guess there is a mixture of more than one genre here.
Anyway, very cool, very clean, quality on percussions and any other instruments are perfect.

Yeah, you're right. Maybe if I've got some time I'll redo that mini-intro soon. I'd like to keep the sound in the main mix but it definitely doesn't need to be at the beginning.

NB: Thanks! Maybe I have been influenced by some psytrance, I listen to a good deal of it. I wouldn't call it very trippy but perhaps it does have some of the characteristic effects and transitions.

What is it with tracks that absolutely have to be filled to the brim with frequency and level.

I'm just being stupid nevermind. This track is actually original. Mainly because the theme is constantly changing. Like this isn't boring at all. Granted. There's something about your lows... low mids that really bothering me. I listened to your track on both my 7506s (shit for bass) and my akg240s (which are 'aight)...

I felt like I was missing bottom end. And I don't trust my Alesis' really. But lets put it this way. My room exagerates low-frequencies, along with my M1Mk2s... and I'm not really "feeling it."

I mean, good on you. I usually go too heavy on low end.

Good arangement. I liked your tweaky psy glitching. The bassline is also rather neat. Not normal trance stuff. This is "progressive" trance simply because it's actually trying to progress and be different. It's like psy-trance blended with Infusion style trance I guess.

I don't really know man. But It's good stuff. Great arangement, melodically interesting.

More low end needed maybe. And something about that clap is a bit cheesy. Or not. I can't decide. Sounds good.

Oh and I demand a huge reverb on the very last sound. It gives me time to meditate about how awesome of a track was with a nice long decaying reverb.

nice track bro, original and moving, but maybe build into your breaks a little more to not make em seem so sudden and just there... but good track none-the-less. don't let the over analytical people tear u down, yea i said it.

Freaq: I'm not completely sure if you're sugar-coating or you're not sure - helpful comments anyway but don't be afraid to spell it out for me, I can take it. I can definitely dig the reverb on that last sound, I think that's a great idea. I'm surprised you actually listened all the way through the outro, I didn't think anyone did that.

This song is something. Fantastic creativity, I really can't say it any better than that! Keep up the great work!

really nice piece of weird-trance here reminds me a lot of Infected Mushroom - the variations, synths, gentle melodies, crazy effects and percussions etc.
only thing that bothers me is the kick - it isn't noticeable enough imo.
I'd also increase the bpm to around 140.
except for that good job, I like it a lot!

Alefort, that's awesome, I always hear second-hand about one of my tracks getting played out so it's great to hear from someone actually playing them.

RonK: thanks for listening, I did wonder if it was a bit under tempo, although because of all the edits it'd be pretty much impossible to change the tempo now. But 136 is close enough to 140 to resample it in a mix so I hope that doesn't stop everyone!

Oops, I almost missed this one, didn't I?

It's kind of funny, someone else hated the xylophone at the intro; I thought it worked well. But I tend to like piano pings, xylophone pings, chimes... Different strokes for different folks, as usual.

This definitely does have a psy feel to it, which totally appeals to me.

Aaron, it's fantastic. There's so much going on but it's not chaotic or annoying at all, just very exciting and energetic. Very cool.

I love it.
