M-Audio X Session Pro
So, i was at digitallife today and checkd out the m-audio booth.. they didnt have a connectiv/torq demo
but they did show me the X-Session Pro... which caught my eye.. my story is i want to try to get into djing, but a) dont have money and b) live in dorm room so lack space.. i've been playing around on virtual dj for months so i pretty much have ht wlo of things, i can mix a few tracks here and there.. the guy gave me a demo and let me ply around with the X-Session Pro.. for $100 it seemed like a steal, it seemed to do everything i think i need in a mixer ( minus the inputs of cdjs.. but he said i fi get a cnnectiv i can use it with cdjs and what not.. )
check it out guys:

your thuohgts are well appreciated
that's a pretty neat looking little mixer there!
i got to play with it and the software seemed very responsive, the set up was two tracks, the equalizers controlled the 3 eq settings.. the 3 knobs on the left controlled effects (it was set to filter, phaser, and a beat repeat type thing)... when you jab the cross fader to the next track, it automaticalyl beatmatches.. you can set hot cue's usign their software.. only problem im seeing is lack of jog dial, but its cool whe nyou have a mouse... theres also that Behringer BCD2000 thats supposed to be $200, but behringer isnt quite hten ame.. and hte hercules dj console which is like $500
ediT: correction Dj console mk2 is $200ish.. theres also a dj control mp3 which is similar to the m-audio for cheaper..
what to do eh?
hmm, what are some other good mixers in the same style as that one that work via USB that aren't too expensive? (350$ and under)
edit: to clear things up, I need a good mixer to plug into my PC for use with Ableton for 350$ or so or less.

yea it does look nice, espicailly for hte price..j ust the thing is, by reading the forums.. the quality on behringer is always iffy.. so thats whats holding me back
What made me interested in this is that it actually resembles a dj mixer. I am not into the ableton/midi controller thing right now, but if I do go that way in the future, this is definitely a controller i'd look at.
I can't stop laughing when I look at this...
actually the first X-Session looked pretty good...but this looks like a "baby-toy" hahaha
it doesnt feel like a baby toy lol i was playing around with it, everything seemed sturdy, the faders and knobs were accurate.. they were a bit stiff, but that i didnt mind.. has anyone ever used the behringer or the hercules?
I didn't say how it feels...I'm commenting on the looks...heh man if I came up with this to the club where I play and all the other ablet0rz geekz saw me with this...loooool
seriously...DJM800 has midi...there's no point for this kind of...toys :-)
well thats obvious.. lol you forget a couple of thinsg though for me.. a) money (the wonderful djm800 costs about $1000 more than any of the units)
b) size constraint.. im in a dorm , where i trip over my desk/chair every step lol
if the money is a factor you should get something like a midi keyboard with lots of knobs instead
I have an emu x-board 49 and it's much better for ableton stuff then anything else...sometimes i even prefer xboard to djm800 though they are two totally different things...
now the advantage of having a keyboard is that you can use knobs for controlling DJ software and keys to trigger loops...etc...or just turning on/off FX...
sorry for such a long post...but I just got this sweet little baby Xboard49 and I love DJing with it
lol not really looking into djing via ableton.. welll acutally, that is a good idea, but i first wanna start iwth the basics the torq-like software they include.. or virtual dJ( which i play around iwth alot now)
and then ill also get traktor
uh-oh...I'd like to change your mind...1st thing I don't know how's torq cuz I haven't had a chance to test it...
but
1) anything what comes out of Virtual DJ sounds rather shitty...just listen to the output...when you change tempo over 2% there will be noticeable artefacts in what you hear
2) if you're into DJing with PC then traktor or any other kind of software can't serve much more then educational purpose...just to get the basics of beatmatching...but once you touch real hardware you'll see that it's pretty different to traktor (and still you can control traktor via xboard for example or any other midi device)
3) ableton is just soooooooooooooooooooooooooo much more inspiring, easier and so on...you can go totally creative without having your head full of thoughts if you'll be able to manage this and that ... and wishes like "if I just had 4 hands)
4) I'm not saying I don't like spinning on CDJs/TTs but actually I prefer ableton since it is so much more fun! :-)

what really appeals to me about hte behringer is that it has cue bottons and loop buttons on board, along with a jog idal.. so i wouldnt have to jump to ym mouse and keyboard all the time

erm I keep looking at pics of this thing, is there a place to plug in headphones???
Or will I somehow have to set my laptop to the sends in ableton or use the ever mysterious Ableton live preview function?
Plz post help, I like the looks of this little bad boy but I cant see the headphone jack anywhere
head phones plug in the back as far as i can remmeber
the guy doing the demo wasnt using headphones though, he just had the thin ghooked up to some nice m-audio monitors

Oh alex, btw.. there has to be a headphone jack because if you look, right under the knobs.. tehres a headphone button for each side of the mixer..
how bad is behringer equpiment? the features of the unit look quite pleasing compared ot hte m-audio though.. you dont even have to lift your hands to the mosue or keyboard (maybe if youre loading htrough tracks but im sure that can be programmed to one of hte buttons )
