+1 it's only still legal in less than 20 countries. Spain is not one of them.

I have done mouthfulls of Absinte and I can tell you 1)it burns the throat, 2) it will make for one of the most interesting nights of your life if you do it on Halloween!

not with reall wormwood though.
Absinthe as a drink is making a big come back now, New Orleans even has a distillery now... however it's not the same as the stuff they used to make in the 17 and 1800's.
The hullucinagen wormwood is what makes it illegal... no wormwood and you can sell it in many more countries, ie spain. But with wormwood and there are few countries that allow for such a drink.

ya they do sash. when i was in barca this summer i tried it. i don't know if the one in ibiza was real though cuz it tasted different but nada will tell you soon. bitch come pick it up it's fuckin' turning brown!!

I had ordered a couple of bottles from Europe earlier this year.

Very high thujone content, and 70% alcohol. The thing about thujone is that it makes you feel less drunk than you actually are. So I had to be careful about getting alcohol poissoning while still trying to get the effects of the wormwood.

I loved the stuff. I like higher percentage alcohols, and this was right up there. It felt really clean, and you felt high for the first 20-30 minutes. The actual thujone only has about a 30min max effect on you, after that its the alcohol. After the initial buzz wore off, I was very very drunk, but still in control.

I cannot say enough good things about the stuff, and I just wish they still shipped that particular brand to Canada.

i dont know about his stories but i drank one about a year ago with my buddies and i didnt know how retarded i was going to be
we were predrinking before the club and i was feeling fine when about an hour later i was hit, i dont remeber the rest of the night but all i know i woke up in my room next day on the floor with my eye all bloddy and my face was covered in redspots..all over the face, i showed up at work (restaurant) and they told me to go home because i looked like i had chickenpox.
haven't drank it since

me too. The legal limits the EU allows for Thujone (aka wormwood) are only 10mg to every KG of liqour. weak by old day standards. so while it may contain wormwood, it is generally regarded as not being able to mess you up the way it used to prior to its ban. This revial of it since the 1990's is a way to cash in on the name for the most part.

Hell even Canada has the following policy:
Liquor laws are the domain of the provincial governments. British Columbia has no limits on thujone content; Alberta, Ontario, Nova Scotia and Quebec allow 10 mg/kg thujone, and all other provinces do not allow the sale of absinthe containing thujone (although, in Saskatchewan, one can purchase any liquor available in the world upon the purchase of a minimum of one case, usually 12 bottles x 750ml or 8 x 1L). The individual liquor boards must approve each product before it may be sold on shelves, and currently, only Hill's Absinth, Elie-Arnaud Denoix, Pernod, Absente, Versinthe and, in limited release, La Fe Absinthe are approved. Other brands may appear in the future.

The reason you may still get retardely drunk is thought to be due to the way the ingredients hold it in your system so the alchohol hits all at once.

Wormwood is shown to store in fat cells. which means that in high doses you may suffer hullucinations days after consuming wormwood if you work out or start burning fat.... ie go to a club and start dancing and the wormwood will act as a release to compliment the alchohol hitting harder at once.

LOL! I'm watching Euro Trip right now, and just saw this thread, after watching them drink it LOL! crazy! haha!

Posted by _EuG_ on Oct-16-2006 02:32:

most of the readings that i have done about absinthe suggest that the once with lower alcohol content are actualy supirior because that way you can drink more to get more of a wormwood effect and not a drunk as fuck effect...

i have tried absenthe my self in Israel 2 years ago, but it was so nasy that i could not drink enough in the short period of time that i had to drink so i ended up drinking vodka shots as well and i was simply smahed but couldnt tell if i was experiancing effects of wormwood...

the person who is gettin this for me is an artists so i hope he has some background knowlegdge on the subject and gets me the good stuff... they live in germany but they decided to pick up the stuff in spain.. i hope its because its better there hehe

Posted by Tiesto4Life on Oct-16-2006 02:33:

if it's illegal it doesn't mean there aren't any real absinthe in the country. real black caviar is now illegal to sell in russia unless you have licence to sell it. it doesn't mean that there is no black caviar sold illegally. the entire world functions this way, sadly. but i know what you mean

i hope my grandma doesnt get busted at the customs.. she doesnt even speak english...

Posted by raveed on Oct-16-2006 02:54:

I drank some at this bar in london .. dont think it was the wormwood stuff but it was really really potent to the extent that while wandering down the streets i decided to relieve my bladder only to be busted by the cops 30 seconds later because i didnt realize it was outside a boots store window that had then triggered of an alarm ... got an 80 pound ticket as well

absinthe doesnt give you a typical alcohol high ...its more of a numbing feeling in your brain which dims your vision and apparently makes you disjointed from your surroundings as i found out

martin sebor's absinthe FTW

WOW, that is insanity. I wouldn't want to drink again after that either if I woke up and was like that.

There is also an Absinthe Night Bar in Amsterdam.
http://www.absinthe.nl/

It was my last night in the city and we finally found out where it was as we were walking by but we were too fooked up already to go inside. I will definitely be going there next year
