-- What to buy
What to buy
Hey guys,
I have been considering getting into DJing. I am curious what your thoughts are on the following stuff I want to buy:
2 Stanton T.50X Belt Drive Turntable
1 Behringer DX626 Pro DJ Mixer
I am also curious where I would go about finding vinyl. I have been having trouble finding where to buy various records. Your help would be much appreciated. Thanks.
dont buy belt driven... save ur money and buy dd.... or else u prob wont be happy with what ur gonna buy.
belt drive - no
Behringer - no

go there.
dont waste your money on that poor quality equipment. You will not be happy. and you will not even be able to mix properly. If you want to get into djing maybe start with a comnputer program like traktor 3 and use mp3's.
packages
Does anyone know of any good packages on musiciansfriend.com or any other site?

I would like to work with vinyl. Do you have any suggestions of ways to setup a package with out spending more than $500.00

Stay in the realm of the well-known brands like Pioneer, Numark, Technics, and things of like (just not Stanton). If you're planning on going the vinyl route, you will spend an extreme amount of money cumulative than if you went cdjs. That is unless, of course, you went the route and got Serato/Final Scratch/M Audio for vinyl emulation, bearing in mind that any of those programs will run about the same amount you wish to spend on the entire system: $500. Vinyl you have to import and ship, which can cost literally thousands more during your mixing tenure. Not to mention digital has become the mainstay and there's not nearly as many tracks that you can find on vinyl which you can find as mp3's or cds. Also, from the sound of it you seem as though you're going for one of those dj-in-a-box type of deals which I just never seemed to be gung-ho about. They don't have a very good reputation, and I just don't think the dj-in-a-box sets are durable. I can definitely relate to you not wanting to drop $1000-1500 and then finding out that djing isn't for you, but that's what receipts and return policies are for. |

you could get 2 numark tt500's and numark dxm06 mixer on ebay for around 500-600 bucks (all new). but you need styli and headphones too (another 200 bucks). i started on this setup and enjoyed the effects on the mixer and stuff... i have since upgraded though
you can get 2 tt's, a mixer, headphones, cartridges, and serato for the cost of 2 cdj's.
i'm not bashing cdj's (i own 1000mk3's), but i think:
tt's + mixer + headphones + cartridges + serato > 2 cdj800's (no mixer or headphones)
both cost about 1300 bucks but i think tt's and serato would be better for you
Id honestly invest and save money for cdj's. You'll have a hard time finding many of your favorite and wanted tracks on vinyl and for the most part they probably wont be located in your area, youll have to shop online. That involves paying shipping if im correct.
If you think about it, the money youll spend on 1 vinyl with a couple remixes or maybe a b side track youll be able to get a handful of digital downloads and save some space being able to load them all on a cd instead of fill your room with vinyl.
Sure CDJ costs more money but it's a lot more versatile and "creative" than vinyl imo.
So my suggestion is save your money for something like a cdj-200 and a numark mixer.
Edit: CDJ-200's are at around 300-350 now at certain sites.
Take the plunge and go second hand if you can't wait.
